Offensive Scouting Report

• QB Alex Smith is average across the board. He won’t win you many games, but with a solid rushing attack and sound defense, he won’t lose you any either. Keep Smith as your starter until his Throw Power rating dips below 80.
• The Chiefs should rely on HB Jamaal Charles as much as possible; however, Knile Davis is a great short-yardage back who can keep the chains moving and give Charles a rest. FB Anthony Sherman is one of the league’s best FBs, especially for a power running attack.
• The signing of WR Jeremy Maclin to go along with TE Travis Kelce should make the running game easier. Kelce is also a very solid run blocker and should almost always be on the field. Continue to develop the young talent at WR and the Chiefs’ lineup will slowly get more explosive.

Defensive Scouting Report

• The defensive line for the Chiefs is strong and will do a great job against the run. DT Dontari Poe will shut down running lanes in the middle with his 97 Strength rating. LE Allen Bailey’s contract is up at the end of the season, and we think you should let him test free agency.
• The Chiefs’ LBs are tops in the NFL for all-around talent and rushing the passer. By user-controlling James-Michael Johnson, you add another athlete to the middle who has solid hit power and can stop the run. Continue to work on finesse moves for LB Dee Ford so he can fill in for anyone who gets injured or can’t be signed long term.
• CB Sean Smith is the physical talent that teams dream of, but his deal is up at the end of the season. You will need to bring him back long term to shut down all the talented WRs in the division.

Key Players

• Charles has an insane 86 Catch rating, which is higher than many WRs in the league.
• Utilize Charles on an every-down basis until he requires a rest — his juke is the best way to beat a defender in the open field if you can’t simply outrun him.

• Houston is the best pass-rushing LB in the NFL. Don’t worry about his matchup or even double teams.
• Houston benefits from Tamba Hali on the other side, but he is also an excellent run defender with great ability to shed blocks.

• Peters has solid size and an excellent Press rating at this stage of his career. He is a perfect fit to play alongside Sean Smith.
• Phillip Gaines is also a very solid corner with good size and speed. The Chiefs are a very solid zone defense team.

• Conley is a solid physical talent, but you will need to upgrade his route running to make him an overall threat.
• While Alex Smith isn’t a QB who tends to throw downfield, Conley is the type of player who could win you some one-on-one matchups.

• This formation has excellent Verticals and HB Slip Screen plays, which can be a great change of pace.
