MUT Offensive Style Builds: Ground and Pound

General Strategy

For players who love a power running attack, the ground and pound is a great style. Focus on building a strong offensive line with great run blocking to counter the strength and block shedding of a defensive line. Pick up a halfback whose trucking is better than his elusiveness, and learn to time your ability to break tackles with the right stick. Focus on building more of a between-the-tackles run game as opposed to heading outside. Learn to control the clock and cut down on turnovers to maximize your winning.

Strengths

• The new play action “shot plays” will work well with this playbook if you get into a second and short situation.
• You’ll have a great matchup against teams that haven’t built their lineup to stop the run.
• The ability to convert on short yardage downs allows you to keep the chains moving.

Weaknesses

• Fumbles are the enemy. Make sure to cover up the ball to limit the damage a big hit can cause.
• What you save on QB and WR skill positions, you must spend on the defensive side of the ball.
• It can be tough to come back from a big deficit if you can’t run the ball early in the game.
