Chapter 12: The Con in Construction

Working together, Chase and Vinnie managed to capture the leader of the thugs who were trashing Pappalardo’s Ice Cream Parlor. After a bit of interrogation, our hero learns that the head goon was supposed to pull off a job for Rex Fury after wrecking the parlor—one that was set to go down at the construction yard in Paradise Sands. Seeing a golden opportunity, Chase decides to take the thug leader’s place and go undercover at the construction yard.

City Exploration

Objective: Get to the Construction Yard

There’s no time to lose! Hop into a vehicle and speed off toward the construction yard.

Objective: Find a Disguise

Chase needs to disguise himself as a construction worker before he can infiltrate the construction yard. There is a barrel filled with junk near the small background room; shove this to the left to move it out of your way.

With the barrel out of the way, pry open the small room’s door. Enter and open the locker inside the room to discover the Chase McCain (Construction) disguise!

Objective: Locate Rex’s Man

Now that you’re in disguise, you need to find Rex’s man on the inside. But now that you’re in disguise, the foreman has some work for you, too—he tells you to fix the nearby fuse box. Toggle to the construction worker disguise, then stand near the fuse box and press to tune it up.

Fixing the fuse box exposes a red switch near the background gate. As you exit the small room, a goon who works for Rex Fury will call out to you, informing you that Rex wants you to steal a crane from the construction yard. What could Fury possibly want with a crane?

Objective: Open the Gates

You have your orders—now you just need to find a crane. Run to the area’s right foreground corner and smash a large crate to discover some bricks. Build these into a space crate, then activate it.

The space crate beams in some more bricks. Build these into a color swapper, and fill your color gun with green energy.

You know what to do! Blast the red switch that you exposed near the background gate, and the gate will swing open. Go through and press to take control of the steam roller beyond.

Police Shield Piece 1 Smash five piles of boulders around the construction yard to dig out a shield piece. Check the maps to see where the five boulder piles lie!

All Steamed Up

Drive the steam roller onto the large red button near the right gate. The button turns green, and the gate opens. Now you can explore more of the yard!

Objective: Fix the Hoist Controls

Before the foreman will let you near the crane, he insists that you fix the hoist controls. Unfortunately, the parts you need are submerged in a nearby pool. You’ll need to seal off four pipes to drain the pool and get at the parts.

Police Shield Piece 2 Give yourself a break and use three coffee stations around the construction yard to earn a fresh, hot shield piece. The maps show where each coffee station stands.

Drill the Pipes

While wearing the construction worker disguise, drill the shaky ground beyond the gate to discover drill symbols. Stand on these and press to drill even deeper, tapping into the water pipes below. Drill all four pipes around the yard to shut off the water supply and drain the pool.

Red Brick: Studs x6 Chop through the boarded door of the small shack in the left foreground corner beyond the gate. The red brick awaits inside the shack.

Vehicle Token 1: Foundation Turn the valve wheel on the side of the small cement mixer in the yard’s right foreground corner. The mixer will lob a gob of goo at the nearby tower, knocking some bricks to the ground. Build the bricks to add a lift to the bottom of the small tower. Step onto the lift’s button to ride up and grab the vehicle token that hovers above!

Fixing the Hoist Controls

After you’ve drilled up all four pipes and drained the pool, drop into the empty pool and smash the large crate to uncover a space crate. Activate the space crate to beam in the bricks you need to repair the hoist controls.

Run up to the bricks and build them to repair the hoist controls. Pull the nearby lever to swing the hoist into a wall and knock down a crate that smashes into another pile of bricks. Build these into a ladder, then climb up to begin exploring the background building.

Under Construction

A solid wall blocks the building’s first floor and needs to be destroyed. Use the grapple gun to pull down an overhead ladder, then climb up to the second floor.

Free Play Character Token 1: Construction Foreman During Free Play, use the astronaut’s jet pack jump to boost up to the small room above the ladder that you pull down with the grapple gun. A character token is stashed up here!

Inch across a thin ledge to reach the second floor’s right side. Pry open a door over here to access a dynamite dispenser.

Collect some dynamite, then return to the solid wall. Place the dynamite in the small barrel near the wall to blast it to bits.

Elevator Action

The elevator beyond the wall is broken and needs its fuse box repaired. Slide under the blue and white obstacle to the left, then use the grapple gun to zip back up to the second floor.

Step on top of the elevator and fix the fuse box. Drop through the nearby hatch and pull the elevator’s lever to ride up to the third floor.

Oh no, the third floor’s on fire! Switch to the fireman disguise and douse the flames with the fire extinguisher.

After extinguishing the fire, toggle to the farmer disguise and water the planter on the left. Climb the vines that sprout up to reach the fourth floor.

Painful Gas

Cross a balance beam on your way to a dangerous gas leak. Don’t touch the gas—it’s deadly! Climb down the nearby ladder instead.

Smash the red toolbox below the gas leak to discover a valve wheel. Turn the wheel to shut off the gas, then climb up the ladder to return to the fourth floor.

Go right and drop down to the third floor again. Bash through a boarded door with the fire axe, then head through to reach the next section of the construction yard.

Vehicle Token 2: Roller As soon as you enter the construction yard’s second area, and before you slide down the long tube, smash the debris in the corner of the small entry room to discover a hidden vehicle token!

Objective: Get the Gate Key

You emerge in a small room. Slide down a long tube, and you’ll land near a worker in distress—a guard dog has run off with the gate key! Perhaps you can lend a helping hand.

Smash the boulder near the doghouse to discover a scan spot. Follow the doggy tracks over to a pile of debris. Search the debris to uncover a bone.

Bring the bone back to the doghouse and place it in the nearby food bowl. This lures the dog away from the doghouse. Hurry and grab the key!

Use the key to open the nearby gatehouse. Pull the lever inside the gatehouse to open the nearby gate.

Objective: Build the Crane

Now that you’ve opened the gate, you just need to build the crane. Unfortunately, this requires 40,000 bricks! Lucky for you, several superbricks are located around the construction yard.

Police Shield Piece 3 Smash three objects around this portion of the construction yard to discover bricks, then build the bricks into three special objects. Your hard work will be rewarded with a shield piece! Check the maps to see where the three special objects are located.

Superbrick 1

Jump up the stacked pallets near the crane’s superbuild pad to reach a small shack. Pry open the shack’s door to enter it and claim the superbrick within.

Superbrick 2

Head to the right, back through the gate, and look for a patch of shaky ground near the foreground. Drill here to uncork a water geyser that boosts you up to a hovering superbrick!

Superbrick 3

Smash a pile of boulders to uncover a scan spot. Follow the footprints to locate a hatch in the ground.

Open the hatch, and a bunch of bricks will spill out. Build these into a small RC crane that you can control.

Drive the RC crane around the yard and dig at the four indicated spots. You’ll discover a superbrick as you go!

Police Shield Piece 4 While using the RC crane to find the third superbrick, you’ll naturally earn this shield piece. Just dig up all four indicated spots with the RC crane.

Character Token 2:Patrick Wenham Activate a color swapper by repairing the fuse box near the right gate. Use the color swapper to fill your color gun with blue energy. Go left and blast the nearby white LEGO wall in the background with the color gun. This adds some blue coloring to the wall, allowing you to climb up to the small ledge above. Smash the ledge’s debris to uncover a hidden character token in the corner. Beauty!

Superbrick 4

Drill another patch of shaky ground near the closed gate on the right. You’ll tap into another water geyser that lifts you up, helping you reach the nearby ledge and get past the gate.

The worker on the ledge asks you to help him out by clearing all the junk from the nearby lot. Hey, no problem!

Hold to use the construction worker’s pneumatic drill and quickly smash all of the junk in the lot. After you finish clearing out all the junk, the worker will reward you with a superbrick!

Build the Crane

You should now have enough bricks to build the crane. Run to the superbuild pad on the left and press to build it.

Objective: Align the Pipes

Press to take control of the crane, and drive it over to the objective beacon on the right. Use the crane to pick up three colored pipes, and place each pipe on the matching color pad. The gate on the right opens after you properly place all three pipes.

You’re all finished here! Drive the crane through the gate and over to the final gate on the right. Rex’s inside man greets you when you arrive, then opens the gate so you can make good your escape. Great work!

City Exploration

Objective: Go to the Observatory

Chase has succeeded in stealing the crane and must now meet up with one of Rex’s men, Eddie Jo Jo, at the LEGO City Observatory. You know the drill: Steal some wheels and motor over to the observatory, pronto!

Eddie awaits you at the observatory and tells you to clear out the nearby rocks so he can pull his truck up close to the building. Use your newfound pneumatic drill to make short work of the rocks—there are 15 to break in all.

Eddie pulls the truck around the building after you clear out the rocks, then gets to work fixing the crane. It seems he damaged the crane on the way up to the observatory. Battle the security guards who arrive while Eddie repairs the crane.

Stealing the Telescope

After subduing the guards, look around and collect the key that one of them dropped. Use this key to open the observatory’s front door.

Enter the observatory and climb the interior ladder to reach a fuse box. Repair the fuse box to open the observatory’s roof and expose the telescope.

Eddie has finished repairing the crane. Hop into the driver’s seat and use the crane to pick up the telescope. Place the telescope onto the truck that Eddie has parked nearby.

Objective: Take the Telescope to the Drop-off Point

Well done! Now you just need to deliver the telescope to the drop-off point. Follow Eddie (and the trail of green studs) to find your way there.

A drawbridge rises as you near your destination, but this doesn’t stop Eddie from speeding across. Guess you’ll have to do the same! Chase hits the gas and soars over the gap, landing safely on the other side.

Continue following Eddie as he drives off-road, ducks into a tunnel, and opens a secret passage. Chase pulls into the secret passage and parks the truck, completing this epic heist like a pro.
