Tour PrepBefore you begin exploring LEGO City, consider completing the following tasks. You’ll have an easier time navigating the city after you accomplish the following:
|
City Zones
LEGO City is so massive, it’s divided into several districts, or “zones.” This lets you “divide and conquer” as you explore the city one district at a time.
The name of your current district is shown at the top of the GamePad. Notice how the name changes as you move through the city. Knowing which zone you’re in is important, for each one features its own special surprises and collectibles. Make good use of the GamePad map as you explore!
Here’s a complete alphabetical listing of LEGO City’s 22 zones:
- Albatross Island
- Apollo Island
- Auburn
- Auburn Bay Bridge
- Blackwell Bridge
- Bluebell National Park
- Bright Lights Plaza
- Cherry Tree Hills
- Crescent Park
- Crosstown Tunnel
- Downtown
- Festival Square
- Fort Meadows
- Fresco
- Grand Canal
- Heritage Bridge
- King’s Court
- Lady Liberty Island
- LEGO City Airport
- Pagoda

Points of Interest
Each city district features unique points of interest. Some of these are fairly obvious, like Fort Meadows’s imposing castle, while others are more discreet, like the entrance to Auburn’s unassuming metro station. Knowing a district’s intricacies is helpful and important, so every zone’s section begins with an overview of its particular points of interest.
Feats and Collectibles
All of LEGO City’s districts have special feats for you to accomplish—even the smaller areas like islands and bridges. Achieve these feats to unlock fabulous rewards, such as gold bricks and character or vehicle tokens!
Check your progress in each zone by tapping the small “i” icon that appears at the top of the GamePad. This displays a menu that reveals all of the zone’s available feats and how many you’ve accomplished. Tap the “i” icon again to close the menu.
Let’s look at each of the many different feats and events you’re likely to find in any given zone of the city.
? Blocks
Amount: 5
Reward: “Super Wrestler” character token (after all ? Blocks in the city have been found)
These special objects should look very familiar to fans of classic gaming. There are only five ? Blocks in all of LEGO City—and you know what to do when you find one! Stand beneath the block and jump to bump it from below. Studs will fly out of the block—keep jumping and bumping until it breaks apart! Something good will happen when you smash all five ? Blocks in the city.
Aliens Caught
Amount: 17
Reward: Gold bricks
Many zones feature special space crates that cause alien invaders to appear when activated. Hurry and chase after these freaky creatures; then press
to knock them down when you get close and the
icon appears. Slap on the handcuffs afterward to arrest the alien and earn a gold brick!
ATMs Smashed
Amount: 18
Reward: Gold bricks
While any character can use ATMs to withdraw fast studs, only robber characters can smash up ATMs for fun and profit. Toggle to your robber disguise, then rapidly tap
to bust up every ATM you see in the city. You’ll score even more studs—along with a gold brick!
BBQ Fires Extinguished
Amount: 17
Reward: Gold bricks
Open flames are dangerous when left unattended. Whenever you see a BBQ fire blazing away, toggle to a fire fighter disguise and hold
to douse the flames with your extinguisher. You’ll cook up a gold brick each time you put out a BBQ fire!
Boulders Destroyed
Amount: 22
Reward: Gold bricks
Boulders are common objects, but did you know there are a few special boulders hidden around LEGO City? Destroy these rare, crystal-covered boulders with the miner disguise’s pickax to extract lots of studs and some precious gold bricks!
Cats Rescued
Amount: 17
Reward: Gold bricks
A number of innocent kitties have gotten themselves stuck in precarious places around LEGO City. Search for these forlorn felines whenever you hear their telltale meowing; then toggle to a fire fighter disguise and press
to rescue them from their plight.
Character Tokens
Amount (in the city): 260
Reward: New character disguises
A vast number of character tokens have been sprinkled throughout LEGO City. Some of these tokens are fairly easy to find, while others will appear only after you complete special feats, such as erecting a superbuild or blasting a certain number of objects with a robber’s color gun. Collect character tokens to unlock bonus characters for purchase back at the Police Station.
Coffee Breaks Completed
Amount: 20
Reward: Gold bricks
Exploring LEGO City is a lot of work. Lucky for you, most zones feature special coffee stations where you can relax and take a breather. Toggle to the construction worker disguise, and press
to use these special stations, where you’ll slurp up a gold brick.
Disguise Booths
Amount: 17
Rewards: Gold bricks, additional disguise booths
Whenever you see a special blue crate with a police shield logo, smash it and build its bricks into a disguise booth. These work just like the one in the Police Station’s basement—step inside to customize the disguise wheel with your favorite disguises. Remember: you must purchase disguises at the Police Station before you can use them.
Districts Conquered
Amount: 20
Reward: Gold bricks
Nearly every zone features a special stand where you can raise a flag. Toggle to the astronaut disguise and press
to raise the flag and conquer a gold brick! These special flag stands are usually found someplace high and require a little effort to reach.
Drill Thrills Completed
Amount: 17
Reward: Gold bricks
Whenever you spot a sizzling fuse box in the city, switch to the construction worker disguise and press
to fix it with your hammer. There’s a good chance you’ll fire up a drill thrill event!
During drill thrills, you have a limited amount of time to destroy several nearby shaky plates with the construction worker’s pneumatic drill. Hold
and drill all of those plates before time runs out to dig up a gold brick. Don’t worry—if you don’t succeed on your first effort, you can always try again!
Ferry Routes Activated
Amount: 3
Reward: Gold bricks, fast travel, vehicle tokens
Ferry routes let you quickly travel between LEGO City’s mainland and its outlying islands. While there are only three ferry routes to find, each one you activate earns you a gold brick.
Flowers Watered
Amount: 20
Reward: Gold bricks
Use the farmer disguise’s watering can to soak green flower boxes you see around the city. Each one you water will sprout some flowers—along with a gold brick!
Free Runs
Amount: 19
Rewards: Gold bricks, character tokens
Free runs are unique events that require a bit of explanation. First, before you can attempt a zone’s free run, you must often locate a free run token within the zone. Collect the token, and a free run beacon will appear somewhere in the zone. Step into the beacon to begin the free run event!
During a free run, you must race through an obstacle course on foot, traveling a short distance around the zone. Collect time tokens as you go to add precious seconds to the clock. If time runs out, you’ll have to try again!
Run hard and reach the goal before time runs out to complete the free run event. You earn a gold brick each time you beat a free run, and you often unlock character tokens as well!
Gangs Arrested
Amount: 16
Reward: Gold bricks
Even after Chase saves LEGO City, a few troublemakers still lurk about. Look for audio scan points around the city and use the GamePad to listen in on nearby conversations, just as you did in Story mode. One of these will reveal a gang of hooligans that’s about to stir up trouble!
After you overhear the troublemakers’ scheme, a special beacon will appear in the zone. Hurry over to the beacon before time runs out or you’ll miss your chance to make the bust!
Reach the beacon, and the troublemakers will appear. Beat up all of these goons and arrest each one!
The final thug often flees the scene on foot. Race after him and press
to knock him down when you get close. Slap on the cuffs while he’s down. Your crime-fighting efforts will score you a shiny gold brick!
Pigs Returned
Amount: 22 Reward: Gold bricks
Poor Farmer Hayes has lost his prized pigs, and the little hogs have gotten themselves stuck in all sorts of crazy places around LEGO City. Whenever you find a lost pig, toggle to the farmer disguise and press
to hop onto the pig’s back.
A trail of green studs appears after you mount a pig, leading you toward the nearest pig cannon. Ride the little piggy over there and press
to stuff it into the cannon. Move around to the side and press
again to launch the pig back to Farmer Hayes’s pen. Your swine-finding efforts will rustle you up a gold brick!
Red Bricks
Amount (in the city): 25
Reward: Red bricks
Red bricks are rare prizes that grant special benefits. Each one has its own power—for example, some will multiply the value of studs you collect. Search high and low for red bricks, and collect them to make them available for purchase back at the Police Station.
Silver Statues Destroyed
Amount: 17
Reward: Gold bricks
Rex Fury had such a grip on LEGO City that his goons managed to erect several silver statues in the scoundrel’s honor. Destroy the miscreant’s monuments by using dynamite to blast each silver statue to bits. You’ll need to locate a dynamite dispenser, of course—unless you’ve found and purchased the Unlimited Dynamite red brick! (It’s hidden in Special Assignment 3, “Miner Altercation.”)
Superbricks
Amount: Lots! Rewards: Bricks
Superbricks are big, colorful bricks that are hidden all over LEGO City. Next to studs, these are the most plentiful goodies in the game. Small superbricks are worth 1,000 bricks; large superbricks are worth a whopping 10,000! Collect superbricks to quickly amass the bricks you need to construct superbuilds.
Superbuilds
Amount (in the city): 65
Rewards: Gold bricks, character tokens, vehicle tokens, and more!
Superbuilds are special objects and monuments that Chase can erect around LEGO City. Look for large, flat LEGO pads, stand on them, and then press
to see what the superbuild is called and how many bricks it will cost you to construct.
Superbuilds require a significant amount of bricks to build and often provide special benefits once they’ve been constructed. Some of the most useful superbuilds are helipads and vehicle call-in points—these let you order any aircraft or vehicle you’ve unlocked and purchased at the Police Station. Train stations and ferries are also handy superbuilds, as they’ll help you travel around the city.
You earn a gold brick each time you complete a superbuild, and many superbuilds also reward you with bonus character or vehicle tokens. Other superbuilds can help you reach special areas of the city that you couldn’t reach without their help. It pays to complete superbuilds, so spend those hard-earned bricks and build every one you see!
Super Stars
Amount: 5
Reward: “Pop Star” character token (after you have found all Super Stars in the city)
Five special Super Stars are scattered across LEGO City. Search high and low for their bright, bouncing bricks, then build them to make the Super Stars whole again. Unfortunately, they won’t make Chase sparkly and invincible, but you’ll earn a special prize if you track down and build all five!
Time Trials
Amount: 16
Rewards: Gold bricks, vehicle tokens
Some parked vehicles in the city are highlighted by light beacons. Hop into one of these highlighted rides to begin a thrilling race around LEGO City! Simply follow the green studs and pass through each checkpoint to extend your time. Use turbos if you’ve got them, and keep speeding around the course until you reach the goal.
Train Stations
Amount: 14
Rewards: Gold bricks, fast travel
Train stations are special terminals that let Chase rapidly travel LEGO City. You must activate each train station before you can use it. Chase activates two train stations during Story mode: one in Cherry Tree Hills and another in Bluebell National Park. Activate more train stations to make navigating the city much easier!
Some train stations are activated by constructing superbuilds. Other train stations are activated by smashing an object on the station platform and then building its bricks into a ticket machine. You receive a gold brick each time you activate a new train station.
Using a train station couldn’t be easier—just stand in front of the station’s ticket machine and press
to use it. Look at your GamePad afterward and tap on the train station to which you’d like to travel. You’ll then automatically board the train and speed off to your destination.
Vehicle Robberies Completed
Amount: 13
Rewards: Gold bricks, vehicle tokens
Vehicle robberies are intense events in which you must steal a vehicle and then avoid the police as you race to reach a distant chop shop. These events often lead you a good distance around the city, and the police won’t rest until you reach your destination, or they smash your vehicle to bits. Follow the green studs toward the chop shop and use turbos to stay ahead of the cops.
Vehicle Robbers Arrested
Amount: 12
Rewards: Gold bricks, vehicle tokens
Some zones feature criminal scan spots. Move to these spots and use the GamePad to scan your surroundings for criminal activity, just as you did in Story mode. There’s bound to be a crook around somewhere!
The moment you discover the nearby criminal, he speeds off in a stolen vehicle. Lucky for you, a police helicopter delivers an emergency vehicle right nearby for you to use! Hurry into the driver’s seat and race after the thief.
Ram the car thief’s vehicle until it loses its hearts and you destroy it. The robber then flees on foot. Leap out of your vehicle and chase after him! Press
when you get close to knock the robber to the ground, then slap on the handcuffs to bring the chase to an end. All vehicle robber events reward you with gold bricks, and many offer bonus vehicle tokens as well.
Vehicle Tokens
Amount (in the city): 80 Reward: New vehicles
Vehicle tokens are similar to character tokens. Collect them to purchase cool new vehicles at the Police Station! Unlike the ones hidden in Special Assignments, vehicle tokens in LEGO City are obtained only by completing other feats, such as constructing superbuilds or completing time trials. You’ll never find loose vehicle tokens around the city.
Warp Pipes
Amount: N/A Reward: Fast travel
Warp pipes are super-secret goodies that are commonly hidden inside of objects with orange strength handles. Only Rex Fury can rip open objects with orange strength handles and discover what might be hidden inside. Purchase Rex Fury at the Police Station and set him as your robber disguise. Use him to rip open these objects and discover the warp pipes. Each warp pipe links to another warp pipe elsewhere in the city, letting you quickly travel vast distances!
