Rune Factory 3: A Fantasy Harvest Moon incorporated a host of new features that truly served to further differentiate it from its predecessors, while ensuring it stayed true to its Harvest Moon roots. The game starred a boy named Micah, who was asked to restore a farm around a special tree, in order to help the tree recover its ability to bloom. The decaying land around the Sharance Tree wasn’t the only secret, however. Micah himself discovered he had the ability to transform into a Wooly, a half-breed monster that concealed his human form. Only by using his human and Wooly forms to gain the trust of the town’s humans and Univir’s creatures could he find love and help the Sharance Tree bloom.

The ability to transform was far from the only new addition to the game. Villagers now had dynamic schedules that changed over time as the story progressed, and could be invited to accompany you on missions into the caves. The combat system was given several enhancements as well, but most impressive was the availability of WiFi multiplayer. Now players could band together in a party to explore dungeons, hunt down dangerous monsters, and secure the rarest loot.

With eleven bachelorettes to woo and a robust affection system that relied on earning a wealth of Love Points with a given character, new abilities with which to woo them were welcome. Players could sample a host of different colognes. Wearing a cologne fancied by your favorite bachelorette could earn a sizable bump in Love Points.
