Every villager in Beacon Town has an affection meter consisting of five Musical Notes worth 200 Affection Points each. Affection increases when you complete requests, gift items, participate in contests and festivals, and interact with villagers in personal friendship & romance events. Of these, completing requests and gifting characters their favorite gifts on their birthdays offer the biggest boosts to affection.

Friendship Events
Among the villagers are six bachelors and six bachelorettes. These characters have special friendship-building cutscenes that coincide with each affection milestone. Many of these contain a choice of responses that can gain you bonus affection. The rules governing friendship events are as follows.

Since these events have the potential to lead to marriage, we only detail the first two instances of these events for each character so as not to spoil the joy of falling in love. The first two friendship events can be experienced with each bachelor and bachelorette, regardless of sex, and can take place once married. An early introduction event with each character takes place upon their arrival to the island, but that doesn’t count toward affection.
