Safety First
Before you can deploy the nano virus on the Casket of Ancient Winters that Loki is building in the park by Avengers Tower, you must help all the civilians in the park to safety. S.H.I.E.L.D. has set up a heat generator on one side of the park. You have three-and-a-half minutes to free eight civilians and carry them to the heat generator.
Each civilian is encrusted in ice, and they are spread out in the park. As soon as you grab the closest one, the Frost Giants in the park will swarm on your location. Save your first civilian and then run to the next civilian. You want to reach the civilian in time to break them out of the ice and pick them up before any enemy lands an attack. If you need a little extra time, alternate going from one side of the park to the next to scatter the Frost Giants a bit.
It will be close to get all the civilians back to safety. The farthest one is at the end of the park and a challenge to reach and return. Don’t bother fighting the Frost Giants; you won’t have time to fight them and save the civilians. When you bring the eighth civilian back to the heat generator, the area is secure and you’re finally ready to take it to Loki.
Viral Infection
The nano virus is ready, but it needs to reach the Casket of Ancient Winters. That’s where you come in. Pick up the nano virus container and deliver it across the park to the Casket. Don’t let the swarm of Frost Giants stop you.
Grab the nano virus container immediately and head toward the Casket. As Frost Giants converge, swing out wide and try to keep them from landing blows against you or the container. If they do close in, drop the container and roll out of harm’s way with a dodge. Turn and unload your pistols on the Frost Giants until all that’s left around the container are icy pieces. Pick up the container and continue on.
Little by little you should advance the container toward the Casket. Use Widow’s Veil if you need to go invisible for a few seconds and escape for a better position. When you get near enough, dump the nano virus container on the Casket of Ancient Winters and stand back. Blowing up the Casket really, really upsets Loki, and he summons a gigantic Frost Beast to finish you off.
A Chilling Conclusion
Loki is not happy at all with your meddling and sics his super-massive Frost Beast pet on you. The thing not only looks deadly, it actually is very deadly.
The Beast can destroy you a number of ways. When it rears back, watch out for its frost breath that will freeze you solid. Dodge to the right through the breath to avoid getting frozen by it.
The Frost Beast can also throw out a line of ice barricades that detonate when they hit you and cause serious damage. They detonate from right to left, so as the explosions approach you, roll away from them to the left to avoid as much damage as possible.
If the Frost Beast catches you with its claw, you’ll be dead in one or two swipes. Dodge left or right to avoid this crushing blow.
However, the Beast’s claws get caught in the ledge when it strikes. While it’s stuck, hurry over and pound away at the claw.
When you deal enough damage to injure one of the claws, the Beast temporarily falls unconscious. Now’s your chance to deal full damage to it directly. Slug it over and over again in the jaw, or use your most potent skill, to bring its life total down by a third.
Frost Giants stream out of pit while the Frost Beast recovers. Try to clear as many of these Frost Giants as you can before the Beast attacks again. When the Beast starts spewing its icy breath, ignore the Frost Giants and return to battling the Beast. The Frost Giants will be frozen by the breath and eventually destroyed by the detonating ice barricades.
Co-op Combo: Iron Man and Hulk
The end fight against the Frost Beast certainly goes better with two Avengers, and who better to smash with than Hulk. His Raging Roar can deal damage, but his big green fists do just fine.
Repeat the process of destroying the Beast’s claws two more times to finally destroy it. If Iron Man gets knocked out of the fight, bring in the next Avenger to carry the torch against the big ice creature. It takes a team effort to finally conquer the Beast.
After its defeat, the Frost Beast slips back into its hole and disappears. Sif apprehends Loki and brings him back to Asgard to atone for his crimes. A few Frost Giants are still loose in the zoo, but what’s that compared to day you’ve had. The Avengers assemble one last time with Nick Fury and Manhattan is safe—at least until Green Goblin starts menacing the place in the next Play Set with Spider-Man!
