The marketplace is in the center of town, within the walls of the Forbidden City. The market fills with locals, giving you ample opportunity to chat up native Sims, learn songs, and make new friends.
You can swim in fountains for exercise or stress-reducing pleasure. But even though there are all of these great things to do around the marketplace, you know what you are there for: spending Simoleons.
Emperor’s Plaza
There are four merchants in the marketplace: relics, food, books, and general store. The inventories of the relic and food merchants change daily, so check back often to see what new treasures are for sale.
The inventories of the book and general stores remain static, though. Here are the useful items and goodies you can buy at the marketplace, plus the wares of the Special Merchant, who is likely not too far from the marketplace during waking hours.

Fortune Cookies
What’s the Fortune Cookie Maker at the general store? This fun machine produces fortunes inside delicious little cookies.
There is a Fortune Cookie Maker inside the food shop at the marketplace, so give that a try before you plunk down the Simoleons for your own to take home.
When activated, the Fortune Cookie Maker shakes and whirs, eventually spitting out a little cookie with a slip of paper inside. While your Sim munches on the cookie, they read their fortune.
If it’s a good fortune, they get the Promising Fortune moodlet. If the treat that pops out of the machine is actually a misfortune cookie, then the Sims gets the negative Foreboding Fortune moodlet.
Lucky Sims tend to get good fortunes more often.
Well, did you like the Fortune Cookie Maker? Then buy it from the merchant. The machine is added to your family inventory.
When you return home from China, you can place it anywhere in your house and enjoy a fresh fortune cookie at your leisure.
If luck is on your side, your whole household can benefit from the good vibes that come from great fortune cookies.
Martial Arts Skill
As you know, each destination in World Adventures has a skill that is somehow tethered to it. China’s skill is Martial Arts.
You can learn this skill by reading a book or just heading up to the Phoenix Martial Arts Academy just outside the Forbidden City and starting in with one of the provided Training Dummies.
The academy also has Board Breakers you can use when you develop the skill up to level 2.
Expect to find a lot of other Sims around the academy—talk with them, get to know them, and then spar with them. Sparring is a wonderful way to develop the Martial Arts skill while you are in China.
Phoenix Martial Arts Academy
There are other locations in China where you can practice your Martial Arts skill: Resolute Fist Retreat and the Crane Master Martial Arts Park.
The Resolute Fist Retreat has beds and showers in addition to a Training Dummy, Board Breaker, and ample space for sparring.
The Crane Master Martial Arts Park is perched high above the Temple of Heaven. It is a small location, but offers the necessary equipment for getting a good Martial Arts training session in.
