After completing the first forest, the portal leading to DunBroch Forest 2 appears. It is organized the same as the first forest and all of the other forests as well. Stock up on purple Sparks at the entrance, and advance through exploration areas to area A and area B where you must collect cakes. The exploration areas offer similar enemies and rewards to those found in the other forests. So let’s focus on the areas that are unique to this forest and the same each time you play it.
Area A
There are three cakes that you must collect in this area. However, this time it is a bit tougher to remove the spell protecting them. Each cake is magically connected to a round, stone pressure plate in the ground. In order to end the spell, a character must stand on the pressure plate for specific amount of time. That time on the plate does not have to be continuous, so you can stand on it for a few seconds and then get off and come back. While that may not seem difficult, there is a catch. As soon as you step on the plate for the first time, enemies begin spawning in around the pressure plate. They continue to spawn until the spell is ended.
Step on the stone pressure plate to begin removing the protective spell from the cake.
For the first cake, which is near the entrance to area A, you have to remain on the plate for ten seconds. As soon as you touch it, Marsh Mucks appear and begin attacking. Try to stay on the pressure plate as long as you can and fight them off. However, you may need to move away for a bit. When you do, the countdown timer stops and then begins counting down again once you are back on the plate. When it gets to zero, the protective spell is broken and you can collect the first cake.
The timer only counts down while you are standing on the pressure plate. However, get off if you need to in order to avoid taking too much damage.
Follow the yellow objective marker to the next stone pressure plate and repeat the process. Once again, you have to stand on the plate for ten seconds. However, this time you have to deal with Pine and Oak Bears, making it tougher to stay in one spot. Leave the plate, defeat a few enemies, and then try to get back to the plate for a couple seconds before leaving it again. Remember that enemies continue to spawn, so there is no point in trying to defeat all the enemies and then stand on the plate—they just keep coming.
Fight off Pine and Oak Bears at the second cake. Keep moving and stop on the plate for a second or two as much as you can. The sooner you get the countdown to zero, the sooner the enemies stop spawning in to attack you.
The last cake requires the same tactics as before. Here you face more Pine and Oak Bears. If necessary, run away from the pressure plate to avoid being surrounded. As you draw the enemies away, rush back to the pressure plate and stand on it for a few seconds until they return. The enemies only spawn to a set number and then stop. As you defeat the bears, more spawn in to replace them. However if you just lead them away without defeating them, no more enemies spawn near the pressure plate.
Standing on the pressure plate is a good way to get surrounded by enemies. Try running away from the plate and the enemies will follow. Then rush back and stand on the plate until they return.
Area B
Area B offers a new way of protecting the cakes. The spells are linked to enemies. Destroy the enemies and the spell is broken. Just after passing through the entrance to this area, you find a couple Bear Catapults linked to a cake. Destroy the two Catapults—with ranged attacks if possible—and then go and grab the cake. That was not so tough. However, the other cakes are better protected.
Destroy the two Bear Catapults to break the spell so you can collect the first cake in this area.
The next cake is protected by a couple Oak Bears. These are tougher to defeat—especially since they are on a small, raised circular area. Either use ranged attacks or get in and use melee attacks up close to break the spell by defeating them. You can also try to lead them away onto flat ground where your character’s attacks might be more effective.
Defeat these two Oak Bears to claim the second cake.
As soon as you grab the second cake, two more cakes appear, complete with protective enemies. One has only a couple Bear Catapults linked to it. However, you will need to fight your way through some more enemies to get to it. The other cake has three Pine Bears linked to it. By this time, your character should have little difficulty dealing with them. Go get that cake.
Defeat the enemies linked to the next two cakes and then collect the cakes.
The fifth and final cake is the toughest to get. Not only does it have two Bear Catapults linked to it—but also a Mahogany Bear. This bear is tough to defeat. Watch out for its shockwave attack as well as the projectiles it can throw. This is a good time to use a special move if your character has one and has purple Sparks saved up to use it. Once you have defeated this big bear, go after the Catapults, collect the cake, and be on your way.
