LEGO Marvel's Avengers Guide Super Hero Training

Super Feats

There’s more to being a Super Hero than choosing an inspirational name and donning a colorful costume. You must use your mind and your muscles if you want to save the day.

Abilities

Abilities are the special powers or gadgets possessed by characters that put the “super” in Super Hero. Flying, unleashing energy blasts, and using your mind to control objects and people are a small selection of the abilities you’ll need to utilize.

Some characters have a special ability tied to the Use or Attack buttons. These abilities are the keys to finding all the collectibles and hitting 100% completion. Many of these abilities can be used to take out your foes, but others are used to overcome hazards. Two examples of these abilities are Captain America ducking behind his shield to deflect incoming attacks (Shield Mode), and Nick Fury using S.H.I.E.L.D. tech to go into an undetectable Stealth Mode.

Fighting

When it comes to battling the bad guys, you can count on two things: They won’t give up easily, and you must battle waves and waves of underlings before reaching head honchos. It’s a good thing your Super Hero team comes prepared to fight!

Every character has basic punch and combination attacks. Many characters have additional attacks, ranging from Hawkeye’s arrows to Iron Man’s missiles to the guns carried by agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. When characters have a ranged attack, the attack they use depends on how close a target is when you press the Attack button.

Ranged Attacks

When a character has a ranged ability, you can often use it in two ways. First, tap the Attack button to shoot in the direction your character is facing. If you hold the Attack button, a reticle appears on the screen. Move the reticle around to acquire targets (you can target more than one item/enemy) and release the button to fire at each marked target.

Combo Attacks

These yellow button prompts appear whenever your hero is in close quarters with an opponent. When you press the indicated button, your hero begins a string of attacks that finish off all but the most powerful of enemies. The best part about Combo Attacks is they add to your Multiplier while freezing the Multiplier countdown.

Team-Up Moves

While you’re in battle, watch for two types of blue prompts. The first is a wide dotted line connecting two heroes. When those two heroes are close enough, the line becomes a blue button prompt. Press the indicated button to begin a powerful Team-Up move that devastates nearby enemies.

While any two characters can perform a simple Team-Up move, time spent working together means the Avengers know a number of different Team-Up moves. Spend some time in Free Play with different combinations of Avengers and have fun with the results!

Attacking the Environment

Not only can you attack villains but you can also (and should!) attack objects. While it may seem more villainous than heroic, smashing everything on the screen is how you discover hidden bricks, paths, and studs (the currency used in LEGO games).

Most objects and studs fade away shortly after they appear, but some bricks remain no matter how long you wait. In fact, they’ll wiggle and bounce to get your attention, which leads to...

Building

After breaking objects into pieces, watch for bouncing LEGO bricks on the ground. This is a clue to move close to those bricks and assemble them into something. With the exception of the big characters such as Hulk, all characters will assemble these bricks when you press and hold the Use button. Objects built in this way are necessary for completing a task. If you’re stuck and unsure of what step to take next, attack every nearby object and see if there’s something you can build.

Taking Control

Not every wall can be run through and not every area can be reached by flying. Sometimes you must resort to levers, buttons, switches, Technology Panels, and S.H.I.E.L.D. Access Terminals to open the path ahead.

Any character can use levers, buttons, and switches, but only certain ones have the knowledge or security clearance needed to use Technology Panels and S.H.I.E.L.D. Access Terminals. Electricity Panels, which can be charged by heroes with an electrical ability (think Thor’s hammer), are related to these controls. If you have a control that isn’t working, look around for an Electricity Panel and give it a jolt.
