General Hotkeys
It is easy to ignore hotkeys when the mouse can take care of any problem in the game. However, learning the hotkeys make it faster and easier to switch between multiple systems in the game. The faster this process is, the easier it will be to take advantage of everything the game has to offer.

Unit Hotkeys
It takes longer to learn and remember all of the unit hotkeys. It is not necessary to get all of them down quickly, or even at all. Just remember the few that are used the most: "H" to heal, "F" to fortify a unit and let it sleep in an area, "B" for ranged attacks (think of it as "bombard," and you'll remember it every time), and "S" for air strikes.
