Civilization Beyond Earth eGuide Introduction

About Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth

Planetfall in 3...2...1

Civilization: Beyond Earth takes the series into deep space and beyond. This time, you won't be settling ancient lands and learning how to use stone, metal, and fire to forge an empire. Instead, this will be the time of nanotechnology, aliens, and orbital weaponry.

Civilization: Beyond Earth is a turn-based strategy game with everything that the genre is loved for: exploration, exploitation, expansion, and extermination of your enemies. This book covers the statistics, tactics, and strategies that are essential for mastering the game, whether you're playing against the computer or your friends. We'll explain what the in-game stats mean and then review the best ways to use everything that you're going to encounter.

There are 16 chapters in this guide because there is a huge amount of material to go through. We've divided the book conceptually, so that you can jump to any subject that piques your interest.

The Starting a Game and Core Concepts chapters take you through the game's options and changes/similarities between Civilization: Beyond Earth and other games in the series.

Next, we'll go through the massive number of units, buildings, wonders, terrain types, and technology in this game. Though these look like reference chapters, each entry goes on to discuss the usage, advantages, and warnings for all of these items. You can't build an advanced strategy without knowing all of the features and components at your fingertips. These chapters help you master those elements.

Afterward, we'll get into specific strategies about the major aspects of the game: quests, affinities, virtues, trade routes, stations, and covert operations. With all of the rudiments already covered, we'll be able to lead you into advanced discussions of these higher-tier concepts.

Toward the latter section of the guide, we'll get into examples of single-player and multiplayer games. We'll demonstrate the concepts that were shown throughout the guide and talk about how they work (and when they don't) in real games.
