For the best of a few worlds, you can create your own server and have friends and strangers come through to enjoy Minecraft. Note that this is very involved stuff compared with playing on someone else’s server. Hosting is quite a commitment, so don’t get into this unless you’re extremely excited about messing around with the ups and downs of server management.
We don’t go into this in depth, because some of the routing challenges, security issues, and other complexities go far beyond the scope of this book.
