Steve
Status: Region: Appears: Item Drops: Health: Attack Damage: Experience Value: Tameable: Rideable: Quotation:
Friendly Anywhere When People Want to Play Whatever He’s Carrying 20 Weapon Dependent Varies No No “Did you hear something?”

Steve is the epitome of miners. He’s worked hard to find a place for himself in the Overworld, and it’s been a long struggle to discover how to survive in such a rugged wilderness. Sometimes alone, other times joined by others, he’s made a niche for himself.

Pig
Status: Region: Appears: Item Drops: Health: Attack Damage: Experience Value: Tameable: Rideable: Quotation:
Passive The Overworld In Small Groups Raw Porkchop 10 None 1-3 No Yes “Carrots are delicious!”

Horses are wonderful, but Pigs are clearly the ultimate mount in Minecraft. They’re easy to find and can be ridden anywhere. Also, if you’re desperate, pigs can be eaten. If you haven’t taken the time to hug your friendly Pigs today, try and do so.

Sheep
Status: Region: Appears: Item Drops: Health: Attack Damage: Experience Value: Tameable: Rideable: Quotation:
Passive The Overworld In Small Herds Wool, Raw Mutton 8 None 1-3 No No “Shears get you more Wool. I’m not tasty at all! Put that Sword away.”

Sheep are your source of Wool, and that should never be underestimated. Wool provides Beds and decorative blocks that can be turned into any color with the appropriate dyes. This makes Sheep the finest resource for decorations in all of Minecraft. It’s possible to make your house look like almost anything with enough Sheep around.

Creeper

Aggressive The Overworld When It’s Dark Gunpowder, Music Discs 20 49-97 5 No No “Tsssssssssssss.”

Creepers are the best known and most feared enemy throughout the Overworld. While some watch the night in terror of Endermen, the stealthy Creepers are the more common danger. Silent until it’s too late, these horrors are patient and brutal in their effectiveness. Even in broad daylight, they persist and hunt their victims. Get distracted for one minute and the last thing you hear may very well be that dreaded hiss.

Skeleton

Aggressive The Overworld When It’s Dark Arrow, Bone 20 3 at Range, 2 in Melee 5 No No “Twang.”

Skeletons are easy to kill once they are nearby, but these nightly hunters shoot well and can badly hurt anyone who doesn’t find cover quickly. The sound of a bow firing in the distance is your cue to sprint toward shelter.

Enderman
Status: Region: Appears: Item Drops: Health: Attack Damage: Experience Value: Tameable: Rideable: Quotation:
Neutral The Overworld or The End In the Dark Ender Pearls 40 7 5 No No “I don’t like when people look at me!!!”

Endermen are like ink moving in the shadows. Docile at first, they become enraged if you dare to look them in the eyes. Keep a submissive gaze on the floor to avoid their wrath, or arm yourself with the best weapons and armor and grin triumphantly while staring them down.

Zombie
Status: Region: Appears: Item Drops: Health: Attack Damage: Experience Value: Tameable: Rideable: Quotation:
Aggressive The Overworld In the Dark Rotten Flesh 20 1-6 5 No No “Brains.”

Zombies are a humble threat, but they’re also a constant danger. Lurking in the night, they can strike at any time. Whether banging around outside your house or wandering through the forest, they ensure that nighttime is rarely the right time to go wandering alone. Hunt Zombies for experience, their flesh—edible in only the most desperate cases—or for rare drops. For some reason, Zombies sometimes like to carry Potatoes and Carrots. Maybe they were farmers in their past lives.

Zombie Pigman
Status: Region: Appears: Item Drops: Health: Attack Damage: Experience Value: Tameable: Rideable: Quotation:
Neutral The Nether All Over the Place Rotten Flesh, Gold Nugget, Gold Ingot 20 9 5 No No “If you hurt one of us, all of us are going to hurt you more.”

Zombie Pigmen live in small communities throughout the Nether. They don’t attack on sight, but become very aggressive if anything hurts one of their members. Be careful not to attack any Pigmen unless you’re ready to fight all of them in the area. Flee if a Ghast manages to set any Pigmen on fire; the Pigmen get a bit stabby about that, even if it’s not directly your fault.

Witch
Status: Region: Appears: Item Drops: Health: Attack Damage: Experience Value: Tameable: Rideable: Quotation:
Aggressive The Overworld In the Dark Glass Bottle, Glowstone Dust, Gunpowder, Redstone, Spider Eye, Stick, Sugar 26 Poison and Harming 5 No No “Here, drink this. It’s good for you.”

Witches are alchemists who have mastered the art of potion brewing. Instead of attacking with melee weapons, they hurl potions, causing either Poison or Harm effects. Neither are good news, so stay behind cover and ambush Witches if they come around the corner. Kill them quickly and escape to heal from any of their potions’ effects.

Ghast
Status: Region: Appears: Item Drops: Health: Attack Damage: Experience Value: Tameable: Rideable: Quotation:
Aggressive The Nether All the Time Gunpowder, Ghast Tears 10 17 5 No No “Where aaarrrreeee you?”

Ghasts are flying beasts of the Nether. They unleash fireballs once you’re spotted, and they have amazing range. Run to get away from these projectiles, and then find a good spot to return fire using a Bow. In a pinch, brave warriors can reflect Ghast fireballs by striking them at the last minute. Returning a fireball and scoring a kill against a Ghast is a sight to see!

The Wither
Status: Region: Appears: Item Drops: Health: Attack Damage: Experience Value: Tameable: Rideable: Quotation:
Aggressive Anywhere When Summoned Nether Star 300 8 50 No No “Black is my favorite color. I like writing sad poetry and hunting miners.”

The Wither is a boss many people will never see. It takes serious dedication to summon one of these monsters—the ritual requires Wither Skeleton skulls. These skulls don’t drop often, and the Wither Skeletons that spawn them are only found in Nether Fortresses (and not even all of those have them). With the necessary materials, find a very out-of-the-way location to summon the Wither and get ready to see half of the landscape obliterated. Whenever possible, bring friends. It’s dangerous to go alone.

The Enderdragon
Status: Region: Appears: Item Drops: Health: Attack Damage: Experience Value: Tameable: Rideable: Quotation:
Aggressive The End There Until Killed Overworld Portal, Dragon Egg 200 10 12,000 No You Wish “Ender Crystals heal me. You cannot defeat me unless you destroy them. Why did I tell you that?”

The Enderdragon is the greatest test of mettle in all of Minecraft. Even harder to kill than the Wither, this boss of bosses has many layers of protection. First off, it’s hard to find The Enderdragon’s home. It lives in a world called The End, and it can only be reached through extensive toil and questing. Even if you find the way to The End, you must destroy the creature’s Ender Crystals and then take the battle directly to the Enderdragon. All of this is easier said than done!

The Overworld

The Overworld is where all miners begin their journey. This land is filled with many biomes that encompass forests, oceans, plains, desert, and beyond. There are mountains to climb, chasms to spelunk, and monsters to battle. This land is your home for most of the journey, though there are other places to explore for the truly daring.

The Nether

In a world far beyond the Overworld lies a land of fire and ruin. This is the Nether. It has the deadliest monsters, the harshest environment, and a few treasures not seen anywhere else in the universe. Come here to master crafting, find materials to summon the Wither, or simply to test yourself against a realm of flame.

Monuments

The Overworld has special places created by people long ago. These monuments live on in testament to the creativity of others. Find them in deserts and jungles, and even under the waves of the oceans. Search carefully, for these monuments have rare treasures, but also be wary of their traps and guards.

Minecraft Tools

Miners are nothing without their tools. If you’re going to shape the surrounding world, it’s a requirement to have weapons, armor, light, food, and a wealth of additional toys. Minecraft is all about exploration and creation, so combine things and try new recipes and materials to make whatever you desire.
