(June 2010 – December 2010)
Alpha took up the second half of 2010. Machinery was a major focus at this time. To power the machinery, Levers, Buttons, Plates, and Redstone were provided. These made the game much more intricate. It wasn’t just a survival game with cool buildings; you could suddenly make the game do things that didn’t even seem possible without some serious forethought and planning. Automated systems started with doors that you didn’t need to open manually, basic traps, and so forth. Soon, they grew into automated farms, monster harvesting rooms, and even storage systems. Players have made “hard drives” within Minecraft and created computers that let you play Minecraft—while you’re playing Minecraft.
