Zone 1

The hostiles you will be engaging with your sniper rifle are nearly one kilometer away. Therefore, it is important you take careful aim before firing.

1. Hunt and Kill Camped Enemies (First Camp)

You and Dusty are lying prone on a ridge, ready to snipe at enemies on an opposite ridge. Panther and Vegas, your other two teammates, are positioned on another ridge and have detected some enemy camps.

They don't have a good angle for the shot, so it is up to you.

You are already looking through the scope of your M82 .50 cal. sniper rifle. Listen to Dusty as he helps you find targets.

If you find Panther and Vegas, go up from them to find three hostiles putting out their laundry to dry near some runoff from the melting snow.

Zoom in on them, take aim, hold your breath, and fire. Take out all three as quickly as possible.

Tip

Press the HUD button in order to bring up a cursor that will help you find your targets in the distance. They can be hard to find with just your eyesight.

Also use the thermal imaging on your scope since the warm bodies of the tangos will stand out against the cooler surroundings.

Like a Surgeon

The Like a Surgeon achievement/ trophy is easiest to get right at the start of the mission. To earn it, you must hit different body parts with your M82 sniper rifle. When firing at the first 3 hostiles, aim for a leg of the first one.

As they scatter, shoot a second one in the arm and then go for a head shot on the third. Now all you have to get is a shot in the center of another enemy's body and you can add another award to your collection.

Tier 1 Tactics

This is a tough mission for Tier 1. You have no HUD cursors to help you locate targets. Therefore, it is important that you use your thermal vision. This will make the hostiles stand out from their cooler surroundings so you can find them quickly and then kill them.

2. Hunt and Kill Camped Enemies (Sniper)

After clearing out the first camp, Dusty detects a glint of light from a scope. There is a sniper out there and he is looking for you and your teammates.

From the first camp, pan to the right and then up. Use the thermal sight to quickly find him. The sniper is prone, so you have a smaller target to hit. Take him out as soon as you can line up the shot.

3. Hunt and Kill Camped Enemies (Second Camp)

There is another sniper in the second camp. Be sure to locate him hiding off to one side and kill him.

There is another camp. Pan to the left to locate it. Target the three tangos near the campfire and neutralize one of them. Let the others be for a second.

There is another sniper here. Look to the right. He is positioned under a tree between the tents and a large rock. Kill him before he can take a shot at you. Now finish off the last two hostiles at this camp.

4. Hunt and Kill Camped Enemies (Mortar Position)

Now you have a mortar firing at you. Kill the crew to end this threat.

Your position is about to come under mortar fire. Pan to the right to find a couple hostiles manning a mortar. Quickly take them out because they are already firing.

Stay on the mortar after the first two are dead since a third will run up to try to lob some rounds at you. Once the mortar crew is history, look to the right and down a bit.

There is a sniper taking shots at you. Use thermal sights to quickly locate and then eliminate him.

Zone 2

5. Defend Hide from Approaching Fighters

Dusty detects another sniper on the far ridge when one of the claymores he positioned below you detonates. You have hostiles headed in your direction. After lowering the M82, switch to your MP7A1 SMG and stay low.

The enemy does not know where you are exactly. Let them get a bit closer and then open fire. Take out as many as you can. When the last claymore detonates, it is time to bug out.

Follow Dusty up a trail to another position. Take cover behind some rocks and then engage the enemy below.

Take out the tangos headed up the hill toward your position. Be sure to stay low and behind cover.

6. Rally with Dusty

Once the tangos have been neutralized, Dusty heads down the hill. Follow and meet up with him near the body of a tango. From the looks of it, these guys are well equipped and ready for action.

7. Ambush Approaching Fighters

It appears one of the enemies was only wounded and got away. Maybe he can lead you to others. Dusty follows the blood trail to see where he went.

Stay on Dusty. Once you find the wounded hostile, Dusty decides to set up an ambush for them.

8. Found a Better Hide. Prepare for Ambush

Not satisfied with the current position, Dusty heads up a trail. Follow him to a better ambush spot. You are uphill from the wounded enemy. Stay low.

You can either continue using your SMG or switch to your M110. Wait for all of the tangos below to come into view. Dusty will count down when to fire. Target the tango with the RPG first and then finish off the rest.

As the hostiles come to get their wounded comrade, spring the ambush and mow them down.

9. Follow Dusty

The area around you is now clear. It is time to resume your sniping. Follow Dusty around until you come to another good overwatch position from which you can engage hostiles at very long range.

Drop prone and crawl forward to the edge to view the enemy camp below and deploy your M82.

10. Clear Enemy Camp

There are four tangos in the camp below. You are fairly close to them, so you want to be able to kill them all quickly. Even though you can see them fairly well in regular light, switch to thermal mode.

This allows you to quickly pick out each target and engage them without wasting time trying to locate each. As soon as the first hostile goes down, the others will start moving around.

After the second or third is dead, expect fire on your position. Once the camp is clear, pack up your M82 and get ready to move.

Four enemies are taking it easy in their camp. When you are done, there will be none left.

11. Get to Overwatch Position

Follow Dusty as he leads the way up the ridgeline to another overwatch position. You have to do some crawling to get under rock ledges and get to this spot where you will do some more sniping in support of the SEAL team.

Zone 3

12. Aid Neptune's Movement

The tangos attacking the SEALs are hiding behind cover. However, they don't know that you are behind them and have a clean shot at them.

The SEAL team, Neptune, is in trouble on another ridge. They are taking cover behind a wall with lots of tangos converging on their position. Use thermal sights to quickly locate the enemies.

The SEALs have flashing infrared beacons on them so you can easily identify them as friendlies.

Start picking off hostiles firing at Neptune. Some are taking cover near the buildings while others are coming at the SEALs from the right side.

The biggest threat to the SEALs are a couple of tangos with RPGs up on the ridgeline behind them.

As soon as you see them, drop those two. That will allow Neptune to move on up the ridge to try to make their escape.

Keep engaging enemies as the SEALs withdraw and you will earn not only the Friends from Afar achievement/trophy for completing the mission, but also the Have a Good Day achievement/trophy for completing all of Deuce's missions.

The RPG gunners are easy to see as they are silhouetted against the ridgeline. Kill both of them before they can hurt Neptune.
