Medal of Honor eGuide Essentials Basic Training

Tactics

Now that you know about movement and combat, it is time to put them together to form tactics that will help you survive on the battlefield and give you an advantage over the enemy.

Cover

Always use cover whenever you are engaging the enemy.

Today's battlefield is extremely deadly. The enemy you face is heavily armed and out to kill you. Therefore, you need to find some object to position between you and the enemy that will prevent bullets from hitting you.

These objects are referred to as cover. Cover can be a wall, a rock, a crate, or even a vehicle. As soon as you come under fire, or even see an enemy in the area, move behind some cover.

If it is low, you may need to crouch down behind the cover.

While there is cover between the hostile and you, the enemy can't shoot you. However, you can't shoot him either. While you could move out from cover to take a shot, there is a better and safer way—leaning and peeking.

Hold down the peek and lean button and your character's feet stay in one spot. Then when you move to the right or left, your character will lean in that direction. So if you are to the side of a doorway, you can lean into the doorway to see and then shoot enemies.

When leaning, you are just moving your upper torso so only your head, shoulders, and arms are exposed. You can still be shot, but it is harder for the enemy to hit you.

Moving forward while holding down the peek and lean button will cause you to rise up from a crouch so you can peek over low cover and engage enemies.

If you start taking fire, continue to hold down the peek and lean button and stop providing movement inputs. Your character will quickly pull back behind cover.

Teamwork

In each mission, you are a part of a team. Work together with your teammates to accomplish your objectives.

During each mission, you are part of a team. In some you will be with one teammate while in others you will be operating with three other teammates. Teams are important for combat since the members work together to achieve a common objective.

It is usually a good idea to stay with your team. Don't take off ahead of them or you may be facing a lot of hostiles on your own.

Instead, as you advance, make sure they are coming with you. If they are staying back, they may see a threat ahead and want to engage it from a distance before moving forward.

An advantage of staying with your team is their additional firepower. Your teammates will take out tangos along with you—they are not just there for looks.

In addition, they can help by calling out threats for you. Listen to what they say, especially if they tell you to target a hostile with an RPG or other heavy weapon.

A teammate can be very useful when moving through buildings. Before entering a room, stack up outside the door and once your teammate is ready, move in.

Buildings can contain multiple hostiles in a single room and two weapons are better than one for clearing them out. Just as your teammates support you, it is important to also provide support for your teammates.

When you are carrying a light machine gun, you are the support. Let your teammates lead the way while you cover them with suppressing fire. Then, once they have taken cover, quickly move forward to cover their next advance.

Flanking

Sneak up behind enemies while they are focused on your teammates.

While it is a good idea to stay with your team, at times a better tactic is to split up in order to hit the enemy from two different directions.

As you are advancing towards the enemy or already engaged with hostiles, look for side paths or trails that branch off from the main path.

While your team moves down the main path or stays put, you can follow the side path around, possibly behind cover, so that you can maneuver to a position from which you can hit the enemy from either the side or rear.

Flanking is a good way to neutralize tangos behind cover by moving around so that the object of cover is no longer between you and your target.
