Recruit Assassins

To see our interactive map pack for Assassin's Creed, click here! (Best viewed in Firefox or Google Chrome).

After liberating Templar Dens, and whenever you have spaces free in your Mediterranean Defense roster, Recruit Assassin markers will appear in areas under Assassin control.

There are two types of potential Recruit Assassin scenarios: six short Secondary Memories (covered here) that tell the stories of individual Recruits and count towards the 100% Synch rating, and “generic” enlisting opportunities where you will find a prospective Recruit confronted by Templars. If you can kill these aggressors and save the citizen, they will automatically pledge themselves to the Assassin cause.

All Recruit Assassins Memories are technically available from the end of Sequence 03, Memory 03, though you will also need to capture Templar Dens in each region to unlock them (with the exception of The Avenger, which appears automatically in the Galata district after you conquer the first Templar Den of your own choosing). There is a Recruit Assassins Memory to play in each region with the exception of the Imperial North and Arsenal districts.

Completing Recruit Assassins Memories will cause “generic” recruiting sites to spawn in the surrounding region.

There are only Templar Awareness penalties for recruiting Assassins from generic recruitment sites: Recruit Assassins Memories only contribute small increments based on your actions in combat.

The starting rank and weapon of the Assassin you receive is random, though the game code will take steps to ensure that you get a good balance of different weapon specialists.

Memory: The Brawler

Availability

Capture Constantine North Den

Walkthrough

Talk to the highlighted individual outside the Fight Ring; Ezio must then beat a pugilist in a fistfight. The opponent evades punches, and regularly employs the Throw Sand technique. Use a kick or dodge to break his guard, then launch combos to weaken him. Kicks interrupt his attempts to use the Throw Sand move, so represent the quickest way to defeat him. Speak to the man at the waypoint marker to end the Memory.

Memory: The Acrobat

Availability

Capture Beyezid South Den

Walkthrough

This Memory is a short walk to the north after you light the Signal Fire to liberate Beyezid South Den, and starts immediately if you approach the area marked by the Recruit Assassin icon; you may wish to reduce your Templar Awareness status before you begin. Once you start the Memory, defend the Acrobat by killing the three marked targets. Follow her over the rooftops until she returns to ground level, then kill the guards who attack; when combat ends, speak to her to end the Memory.

Memory: The Pupil

Availability

Capture Constantine South Den

Walkthrough

This individual will automatically run to meet Ezio after you light the Constantine South Den Signal Fire and perform a Leap of Faith back to the ground. The Memory does not feature any conflict, so it’s safe to complete it now and clear your Templar Awareness Meter afterwards. The prospective Recruit challenges Ezio to a race; beat him to the final waypoint to enlist him.

Memory: The Beggars

Availability

Capture Imperial South Den

Walkthrough

Talk to the highlighted man to begin the Memory. Activate Eagle Sense, then follow the trail and identify your target within the green search zone. Chase after the thief and, avoiding citizens greedily rushing to collect the coins she liberally distributes, knock her from her feet with the Leg Sweep move.

Memory: The Avenger

Availability

From Sequence 03, Memory 03

Walkthrough

Speak to the injured man in the graveyard east of Galata Tower, then head south over the rooftops until you reach the green search zone. Activate Eagle Sense to identify the target in the courtyard below, then kill him by any method you please – a simple Throwing Knife will suffice if you would prefer to avoid conflict. Return to the man and speak to him to gain your new Recruit.

Memory: The Pickpocket

Availability

Capture Bayezid North Den

Walkthrough

Walk into the marker a short distance south from the Bayezid North Den to begin the Memory. Use Eagle Sense to identify your target, then speak with the thief. You must then pickpocket 150  before the timer expires. There are guard patrols in the area, so try to target civilians a safe distance away from them, changing positions in accordance with their movements.
