Assassin's Creed: Revelations eGuide Essentials Reference & Analysis

Templar Awareness

Activated late in Sequence 02, the Templar Awareness system will be a constant thorn in your side unless you take steps to keep it under control.

The accompanying table reveals all situations that can lead to increases or decreases in the Templar Awareness meter. We find that preventative maintenance is best in early Sequences: plan your journeys to pass Heralds and reduce it whenever possible.

The Templar Awareness Meter is deactivated or frozen during certain Memories – for example, those taking place in AltaÏr’s time, or in locations outside or beneath Constantinople.

Once the meter switches to the Aware status, avoid conflict and other activities that lead to Templar Awareness penalties until you have completely emptied it – unless, that is, you actively want to trigger a Den Defense.

The Templar Awareness system acts as a subtle deterrent to gratuitous violence. You can start fights and brutalize your way to success in Memories whenever you like – but be prepared to pay a penalty.

Whenever you encounter Corrupt Officials, they and their bodyguards will attack Ezio on sight. For easy kills, and to negate the need for Templar Awareness increments, try to hit Officials with a Poison Dart from a safe distance. You do not need to stay to observe your victim’s demise: the 50% reduction will be credited when they finally succumb to the deadly toxin.

Every Assassin Den in the Imperial, Bayezid and Constantine districts can be rendered immune to Templar attacks by completing their unique Master Assassin missions. See page 96 for further details.

You can find further tips and tricks for reducing labor due to Templar Awareness penalties in the Rebuilding Constantinople section of the Side Quests chapter: see page 86.
