The Sims 3 Showtime Guide Essentials Careers
Singer
With raw talent and a spark of showmanship, Singers can put on a show that audiences will never forget.
Does everyone rave about your beautiful singing voice? They’re probably just being polite. But maybe you really do have what it takes to make a living as a professional Singer. As with all the performance careers, succeeding as a Singer isn’t easy.
If you’re not willing to put in the hard work, you’ll be singing on street corners for pocket change or delivering Sing-A-Grams for the rest of your career—not exactly the glitzy life you envisioned?
However, with the proper drive and a healthy work ethic, you can become the diva you’ve always dreamed of, raking in wealth and fame with every pitch-perfect performance.

Sims joining the Singer career have a leg-up on their counterparts in the Acrobat and Magician fields. While their colleagues must gain career experience by performing for tips or simply practicing tricks, Singers can earn career experience (and money) by performing Sing-A-Grams.
Sing-A-Gram jobs are available to all entry-level Singers. There are no set work hours when performing Sing- A-Grams jobs.
They appear randomly throughout the day and are easily visible on the Map View—simply click on a gold microphone icon to track down a Sim in need of a Sing-A-Gram. Your Sim automatically spins into their career outfit and hops in a taxi to track down their customer.
Upon arrival your Singer sets down their Personal FX Backpack and performs a quick ditty for the customer, presenting them with a special gift at the end of the song.
Completing a Sing-A-Gram rewards your Sim with career experience as well as a few Simoleons. The amount you make from each Sing-A-Gram differs based on your current career level—higher level Singers earn more money than lower level Singers.
But the experience gained is based solely on the type of Sing-A-Gram performed. You Are Special Sing-A-Grams provide the most experience and are available at Level 3.
In addition to doing Sing-A-Grams jobs for money, you can also perform Sing-A-Grams as a social interaction, cheering up Sims while gaining career experience.
Sing-A-Grams jobs are available throughout a Singer’s career, but are most useful early on. Once a Singer has some experience, they should focus on performing gigs, because gigs offer the most career experience and money.
There is no penalty for failing to perform a Sing-A-Gram, so don’t worry if you miss out on an opportunity to cheer someone up.
Gigs: Singing on Stage
You’ll need to pay your dues playing smaller venues before graduating to Big Shows like this. It’s good to have goals, right?

By the time you reach Level 2 in your Singer’s career, you can perform your first gig at Verde Park. Track down the gig’s proprietor, audition, then show up at the venue on the day of the gig. After choosing a stage setup, the show begins!
Pause the game at the start of the show so you can queue your first set of interactions. If you don’t pause, your precious stage time will tick away while you’re making a decision.
Click on the stage and select the Perform Song interaction followed by the name of a song. To begin with, you only have a few songs to choose from. But as you progress through your career you’ll unlock more songs to perform.
Here's a complete list of available songs:
- Don't Say 'Not Now!'
- Freeing Myself
- Hot and Foxy
- It Hurts Both Ways
- Maybe It's Better This Way
- New Glitz
- One More Grey Day
- Oogie Fever
- We're Moving Slow
- Wig Wig Wag
Each song is broken up into five parts: Intro, Verse, Chorus, Break, and End. Once a song has begun, you can choose interactions such as Sing Verse, Sing Chorus, and End Song.
Alternately, you can let a song play out on its own, automatically transitioning through its five parts. Later in your career you’ll unlock song boosts, powerful interactions that allow your Singer to improvise during a song’s Break.
Song Boosts
Cut loose with a song boost during the middle of a performance to drive the crowd wild!
Song boosts like Make a Pose, Kisses to the Crowd, and Flourish are a great way to add a bit of flair to your performance. These interactions can be chosen in the middle of the song, during the Break, while instrumental music continues playing in the background.
These work much like the Sing Verse or Sing Chorus interactions. However, song boosts trigger an immediate reaction from the crowd, either positive or negative. A successful song boost can improve your overall performance score while an unsuccessful song boost can hurt it.
The success of a song boost is determined by a Singer’s hidden Entertainer skill. The good news is that by the time you unlock song boosts, you’ll most likely have a high Entertainer skill, helping minimize failed interactions.
After performing a song boost, there is a slight cooling down period before you can select another. You can queue up as many song bursts as you want.
Singing with a Guitar
Playing guitar doesn’t influence the outcome of a performance, but it sure does look cool!
If your Sim has a guitar in their personal inventory, they can choose the Perform Song With Guitar interaction when performing a gig or as a self interaction. Playing a guitar while singing is purely aesthetic and has no impact on a performance.
Guitar skill builds slightly during these performances, but skill (or lack thereof) has absolutely no bearing on the overall performance score. The Singer will strum the guitar throughout the song, even during song boosts, leading to some unique and entertaining animations. When performing with a guitar, song selection is limited to the following tracks:
- Don't Say 'Not Now!'
- It Hurts Both Ways
- Maybe It's Better This Way
- New Glitz
- One More Grey Day
