Spring

As the last of the winter snows melt, revealing grass and trees eager for renewal, Sims get their first taste of spring. Showers come and go, leaving puddles just perfect for splashing, as well as coaxing gorgeous wildflowers from the ground. Weather may be unpredictable during this season—sun to rain to sun and maybe even a snow flurry—but there is one thing you can count on: love is most certainly in the air.

Spring Holiday: Love Day

Love Day is not entirely unlike Valentine’s Day. It’s a chance for Sims to open their hearts to the possibility of love. While enjoying the Spring Fling moodlet, Sims are more likely to accept and project romantic socials. Imagine mixing this up with a slow dance at the Spring Dance?

Spring Party Suggestion: House Party

There isn’t a party with a particular theme geared for this season, so other Sims around town are likely to hold the basic house party. Of course, there’s no reason you cannot hold any party you like, but if you receive an invite, it will likely be for this type of base game party.

Wildflowers

The rains of spring encourage wildflowers to grow all over your town, from the festival lot to the edge of the mountains. Wildflowers grow randomly, though typically close to spots on the map that already generate collectibles, such as gems or butterflies. Once sprouted, Sims may walk over to wildflowers and either admire them or pick them. If you opt to view them, you simply approach and gaze approvingly on the blooms.

Should you choose to pick the wildflowers, they go into your personal inventory. From here, you may either sell wildflowers or drag them on to your lot, where they appear in a small vase. Wildflowers in a vase improve the environmental bonus of a room.

There is a small chance, though, that when picking wildflowers, your Sim will develop allergies. Not every Sim is allergic to flowers. Just some. If it’s determined that you are allergic, you are hit with the Allergy Haze moodlet. Going forward, every morning of spring, your Sim then has slight chance to again receive the Allergy Haze moodlet. (Sims who Love the Outdoors have a lower chance of getting the moodlet, while Sims with the Hates the Outdoors trait have a higher chance.)

When you have Allergy Haze, you sneeze and sniffle. This moodlet times out after a few hours, and that time is almost halved if your Sim remains indoors. You can, though, address allergies by going to the hospital and selecting Get Allergy Shot. The shot prevents your Sim from getting allergies for the remainder of the season.

Spring Festival

On the grand arrival of the Spring Festival, Sims brave showers to celebrate renewal and love with their friends and neighbors. Speckled eggs hidden around the festival grounds delight young and old alike. Music beckons Sims to the dance floor, eager for a chance to be crowned King or Queen of the Spring Dance. And what with the kissing booths and love tester machines, Sims with love on their minds will have ample opportunities to test their talents in the ancient art of amore.

Spring Dance

With a certain amount of romance afoot at the Spring Festival, why not take a spin on the dance floor with a partner... or a would-be partner? This dance floor is a good size, allowing for several couples to dance together while music plays from a nearby sound system.

Now, there is a reason to set aside time for dancing, other than the Social, Fun, and LTR boosts that come with it—in addition to developing the hidden Dance skill. (Remember, the more you dance, the better you get at it.) Seasons keeps track of how many hours are spent dancing during the season at the dance floor. On the final day of the festival, the two Sims who have danced the most—one male, one female—are awarded Spring Dance King and Spring Dance Queen. For winning this honor, you receive a boatload of Festival Tickets.

Slow Dance

Teens and older have a new dance interaction: Slow Dance. Exceedingly romantic in nature, the Slow Dance allows two Sims to share a tender moment. If you ask another Sim for a Slow Dance and they accept, you drape your arms around each other and sway to the music. (By the way, you cannot Slow Dance to fast music, like electronica, so change the station!) Teens naturally dance with a little distance between them and things are a tad awkward—but that’s just teens being teens.

The hidden Dancing skill plays into how a Slow Dance goes, so if your Sim hasn’t done much dancing, they may occasionally step on their partner’s foot. But advanced dancers have been known to dip their partners.

Slow Dancing boosts LTR and satisfies both Social and Fun needs.

Egg Hunt!

When you visit the Spring Festival, you’ll undoubtedly notice some sparkles in the grass. Step closer. Look down. That’s a painted egg! Every day during the Spring Festival, multiple painted eggs are tucked around the festival lot. In fact, there are even rare fancy eggs mixed in with the painted eggs that are not only worth a lot of Simoleons, but also give the finder the Egg-cellent Find moodlet.

When you click on an egg, you can either pick it up or trigger an Egg Hunt. When you go on an Egg Hunt during the festival, your Sim wanders around the lot, continuing to look for eggs. This takes more time than if you directed the Sim to pick up eggs one by one, but it does satisfy the Fun need. Once you find all of the eggs hidden for that particular day, a message pops up alerting you that a new batch will be placed tomorrow.

Roller Skating

Unless Sims are lazy or hate being outdoors, roller skating is fun activity to partake in at the Spring Festival. A large roller rink on the festival grounds can accommodate several Sims. This gives you plenty of room for slipping and falling when first trying out this semi-hidden skill.

Skating is a great social activity, too, allowing you to not only build LTR with existing friends, but also meet new Sims. Who knows? Maybe you’ll meet the love of your life on the boards?

Horseshoes

Fancy a game of horseshoes? There are multiple Horseshoe Courts at the Spring Festival where you and other Sims can take turns throwing shoes at the stake in hopes of scoring major ringers. Win Festival Tickets by participating in horseshoe tournaments and challenges. Because this is a semi-hidden skill, the more you play, the better you’ll do against challengers. Can you be the best darn horseshoe flinger at the Spring Festival?

Kissing Booth

Step right up and get a smooch from one of the lovely Sims standing behind the kissing booths at the Spring Festival. There are two booths side-by-side at the festival, one with a male attendee, one with a female attendee. For just §5, you can request a kiss from the Sim working the kissing booth. Getting a smooch satisfies the Fun and Social needs, plus it bestows the Got Kissed at a Kissing Booth moodlet, which is a nice mood booster.

Certain factors affect what kind of kiss you receive from the kissing booth. Sims with Great Kisser or Hopeless Romantic receive a rather sultry kiss, that leaves the attendee feeling rather hot and bothered. Shy or Loner Sims get an adorably awkward, shy kiss. Slob Sims give a big ol’ sloppy kiss, which is the non-adorable awkward.

You can attend an empty kissing booth, too, or even replace a currently occupied booth. Select the Tend the Kissing Booth interaction to step behind the counter and offer your tender lips to festival-goers. To lure in more customers, use the Act Flirty interaction! Every kiss you give to other Sims at the booth pays you a baseline of §5, though you can make more if other Sims react well to your smooches.

Love Tester

Are you a red hot lover? Why bother going through all the rigmarole of developing a romantic relationship to find out when you can just step right up to the love tester machine at the Spring Festival, drop §5 in the slot, and give that cold brass handle a squeeze. In mere moments, a (surely) highly accurate reading tells you exactly if your heart runs hot or cold—or perhaps somewhat just tepid.

When your Sim uses the machine, one of 10 colorful lights lets you know just what a love machine you are, running from Cold Fish to Uncontrollable:

There is a degree of randomness in the reading your Sim receives from the machine, but other factors come into play, too. Your Sim’s internal temperature can affect the outcome, so the warmer your Sim is, the higher the reading might be. If your Sim has any romantic traits, like Good Kisser and Hopeless Romantic, this affects the outcome. And if your Sim has a romantic-themed Lifetime Wish, that too can nudge the Love Tester’s reading toward a hotter outcome.

Depending on the reading, your Sim may get one of two moodlets. Anything within 1–3 results in Freezing Loins, which temporarily lowers the chance that other Sims will accept romantic socials. The 7–10 range bestows Burning Loins, which means Sims are more likely to accept romantic overtures and socials. If the reading is 4–6, that’s considered fairly neutral and no moodlet is awarded.

Two Sims can use the love tester machine together, too. You can only use it with Sims you can be romantically linked to, though, so no family members, etc. The machine works in the same fashion, with the different outcomes on a scale from 1 to 10. The outcome with two Sims is affected by internal temperature, any current romance between the Sims (spouses, for example, should see a positive reading unless there is a serious LTR issue), the STC of the most recent social, and the attraction between the two Sims, as dictated by the new attraction system explained in New Simology.

Some supernatural or special Sims have unique chemistry between them. The following Sims have high chemistry between them at the love tester machine, meaning they will always have a 7–10 reading:

Vampire + Human Sim

These Sims have low chemistry together, so they always have a 1–3 reading:

Playground

While not exactly an organized or official activity for the Spring Festival, there is an inviting playground on the lot for children to enjoy. Climb up on the slide and have a good old-fashioned “whee!” on the way down. Hop around the Hive Climber play structure and go boing on a spring-loaded Busy Bee Bouncing Bobble. Kids absolutely adore their time at the playground, so if you have toddlers and children in your household, make a stop here to get some fresh air and have a whole mess o’ fun!

Face Painting

What festival is complete without a face painting booth? Every festival has a small tent where you can get a sweet little design painted on your mug. Designs include not only those found in the Make-Up tab of Create a Sim, but also some seasonal options:

Hearts
Bunny face

When you choose the Get Face Painted interaction, your Sim slips into the tent for a moment. When they emerge, they have a little splash of color on their face. Getting your face painted satisfies the Fun need. Face painting costs §50.

Now, there is a chance that face painting doesn’t exactly work out. If the activity fails, your Sim emerges with a mess o’ make-up on their face, such as big smudges. This doesn’t ruin your day with a negative moodlet, but you definitely do not gain any Fun.

Face painting naturally fades after a few hours. If you want to remove it manually, you can hop in the shower, remove it via a mirror, or change your outfit.
