Paper Mario: Sticker Star eGuide Walkthrough Walkthrough

Decalburg

Decalburg is not only the site of Sticker Fest, it serves as a hub between World One, World Two, World Three, and Surfshine Harbor. Aside from a tutorial combat session during your first visit, Decalburg is a friendly location that offers important services, such as a Sticker Shop, Sticker Museum, and Sling-a-Thing Platform.

Decalburg Town Layout

Overview

Your first visit to Decalburg serves as a tutorial about many of the game’s basic elements. You’ll find changes and additions as you revisit this Course. The Sticker Shop, Heart Block, and Save Block become available during your first visit. As you progress through the game, the Sticker Museum, Sling-a-Thing Platform, and Thing Shop all open for business.

Although the game begins in the festival grounds, the Course’s entrance/exit is actually located in the town center. As a generally peaceful town, Decalburg is a great place to catch your breath now and again. You’ll find several common (but essential!) Battle Stickers scattered around the town; swing by and grab a few whenever your Album is looking a little sparse.

Prerequisites

Decalburg is available when the game starts. Additional visits are needed to gain access to the Sticker Museum, fill the Sticker Museum, and collect the available HP-Up Heart.

Objectives

Decalburg contains several objectives, some of which require additional visits:

  • Gather the 27 missing Toads.
  • Repair the town center.
  • Unlock the Sticker Museum (requires an additional visit).
  • Fill the Sticker Museum (requires additional visits).
  • Collect the HP-Up Heart (requires extensive play).
  • Unfurl all eight of the Super Flags (satisfy the conditions stated on each Super Flag).

Recommended Tactics

Outside of the game’s cinematics, Decalburg contains only a single battle. The first time you attempt to exit the town, you’re ambushed by three Goombas.

In addition to any stickers you collected during your time in Decalburg, Kersti supplies you with a selection of Jump, Hammer, and Mushroom stickers at the start of the battle. Virtually any combination of stickers can lead you to victory, but consider using a Hammer during your first turn. If you time your attack for a rating of “Great” or better, you’ll defeat the first two enemies before they have a chance to react.

Festival Grounds

Not only was Sticker Fest ruined, but Mario’s battle with Bowser doesn’t go quite as well as he might have hoped. When the opening cinematic ends, tap repeatedly until Mario recovers. The voice calling out to you belongs to Kersti. Move to the nearby poster of Peach and hold to pry Kersti loose.

After you free Kersti, it’s time to lend a hand to the citizens of Decalburg. There are 27 Toads trapped (or panicked) in various locations around the town, and you’ll need to find them all to clear a path to the exit. Six of these Toads are located within the festival grounds—start your search with the two Toads to the left. Hop onto the crates and peel the Bowser tape to free the first Toad.

Before you can reach the Toad hanging from the pennants, you must peel the Bowser tape at Point 3. After the booth springs into place, jump up along the nearby crates and free your helpless friend.

When you free the Toad trapped at Point 4, he gives Mario an indispensable tool. Peel away the Bowser tape to receive the Hammer, along with one more citizen to help repair the town.

Locate the poster leaning against the front of the stage, then tap to slam the Hammer into the ground. The impact topples the poster, revealing yet another Toad. Peel away the Bowser tape to free him.

Near the right edge of the area, you’ll find a Toad running around in a panic. Peel the Jump sticker off of his head to calm him down.

The remaining Toad is stuck on a crate in the foreground. Peel the Bowser tape from the top of the crate, then hop down and peel the tape from the front of the crate.

Search the area for any stickers you might like to place in your Album. When you’re ready to continue, use the Hammer to smash the Block at Point 8, then peel the exposed Bowser tape. After the walkway springs into place, follow it into Decalburg’s residential area.

Residential Area

There are 21 Toads scattered throughout Decalburg’s residential area. When you enter the area, look for the Toad hiding in the yard to the left. Hop over the fence, then use the Hammer to topple the flimsy bush. With his hiding place compromised, the Toad scurries off to the next area.

Hop back over the fence and use the Hammer to knock over the bush at Point 2. Peel the Bowser tape to free the revealed Toad, then continue to the right.

The area contains three houses. Enter the house on the left, then climb onto the cabinet and jump up to find a Hidden Block. Drop down and open the cabinet to reveal a stack of 10 Toads!

The house in the center of the row contains a Toad. Peel the Bowser tape from the front door, then head inside. Use the Hammer to knock the trash bin over, then wait for the crumpled Toad to recover.

After you leave the middle house, hop over the small fence to the right. Follow the path between the houses to find a Toad trapped in the back yard. Peel the Bowser tape to free the Toad. Don’t forget to check the nearby ? Block before you leave!

When you try to enter the house on the right, a voice cries out from somewhere nearby. Stand near the porch, then use the Hammer to flip the doormat over. Peel the Bowser tape to free the revealed Toad, then head inside.

Approach the room’s back wall, then examine the picture in the middle of the row to discover a stack of five Toads.

There’s a tightly folded Toad trapped on the small structure to the right of the houses. Stand under the structure, then jump up to jostle the incapacitated Toad. Repeat the process until the poor fellow manages to flatten himself out.

Search the area for any stickers you’d like to add to your Album, then move to the path in the foreground. Follow the path to the left to find the town center.

Missing Toad Locations

Town Center

The chaos at the Sticker Fest seriously damaged the town center, and it will take every available Toad to fix it. After you gather the 27 missing Toads, enter the town center to initiate the repairs. Once the area has been smoothed out, you’re free to explore the rest of Decalburg.

The town center contains a Heart Block and a Save Block. Remember to head back to Decalburg whenever you feel a little run down.

The building to the right contains a Sticker Museum. The building is locked during your first visit. Before you can access the Sticker Museum, you must find a way to rescue its founder. Return to Decalburg after you complete World 1-1.

The Toad near the fountain claims to have heard a mysterious cry for help. You’re not able to do anything about it during your first visit, but return to this location after you complete World 1-1.

The Decalburg Sticker Shop is a great place to stock up on essential stickers. This location offers a fairly limited selection at the start of the game, but new stickers will become available as you progress through the campaign.

The path to the left of the fountain leads to the Decalburg Sling-a-Thing Platform. After you complete World 1-3, you can use this platform to turn any collected Things into powerful stickers.

The Thing Shop is located behind the suspicious door just left of the Sling-a-Thing Platform. This shop sells all of the Things you’ve managed to collect during your adventure. Any Things (or resulting Thing Stickers) currently in your Album, however, will be excluded from the shop’s inventory.

When you’re finished exploring the town and collecting stickers, return to the fountain and attempt to exit the Course. When you do, three Goombas jump out and accost you. This is a fairly straightforward battle, so take this opportunity to experiment with the various Battle Stickers in your Album. After the battle, use the nearby Heart Block to refill any lost health, then exit the Course.

Additional Visits

With all of the services this town offers, you’re likely to make regular visits to Decalburg. You should visit whenever you need to update the Sticker Museum, convert Things into stickers, review the Super Flags, or replenish your stickers and health. Aside from these common tasks, however, there are three major objectives that cannot be completed during your first visit.

Recommended Visit #2

After you complete World 1-1, return to Decalburg’s town center. Use Kersti’s paperization ability to peel the fountain and free the trapped Toad (press to initiate paperization, move Mario’s shadow onto the fountain, then press to peel the loose scrap). Use paperization to replace the scrap, then follow the grateful Toad to discover the Sticker Museum.

Recommended Visit #3

As you play through the game, you’ll occasionally encounter a group of enemies bullying a Toad. After you complete all five Toad rescues, return to Decalburg to claim a well deserved HP-Up Heart. Walk to the residential area, enter the house on the right, and examine the green postcard to the right.

HP-Up Heart: Decalburg

To collect the HP-Up Heart in Decalburg, rescue the bullied Toad in World 1-2, World 2-1, World 3-11, World 4-6, and World 5-2. After you resolve all five conflicts, return to Decalburg’s residential area. Examine the green postcard to receive your prize.
