Team 17 announced a new title in the ongoing Worms series earlier this year, called Worms Rumble. Typically a turn-based, strategy combat game, Worms Rumble makes a shift to real-time play while still trying to maintain that silly Worms vibe.
Perhaps most notably, among the modes of play in Worms Rumble is another take on the popular battle royale formula. Today, Team 17 announced a December 1, 2020 release date for Worms Rumble, as well as details on an upcoming Open Beta testing phase.
Worms Rumble Open Beta Details
If you’re curious about giving Worms Rumble a try, you can do so in November with what appears to be a PlayStation-exclusive Open Beta period. This testing phase will take place from November 6, 2020 to November 8, and any person with an active PlayStation Plus subscription will be able to participate.

Along with the dates, the content that will be available during the Worms Rumble open beta phase has been detailed. We have it listed for you below, per a PlayStation Blog post from the publisher:
- Three game modes will be available. There’s the free for all Deathmatch, as well as single and squad-based versions of the Last Worm Standing battle royale mode.
- One arena will be available, as long as one training level.
- In terms of weapons, the publisher states that the “full launch arsenal” will be available. What that means hasn’t been detailed yet, but will be soon.
- Two utilities will be included (possibly more? It’s unclear), the classic Jetpack and a new version of the Ninja Rope called the Grapple Gun.
On December 1, Worms Rumble will launch for the PS4, the PS5, and the PC. You’ll be able to play with anyone across the three platforms, and the PS5 version will be “the first 4K Worms experience.”
This is the 25 anniversary of Worms as a series, which has had its ups and downs over the years. Hopefully Worms Rumble gives the IP a new chance to make an impression as an early next-gen title.
