The Best Ships for Combat in Starfield

Dogfight in nothing but the best!

You will spend a lot of time flying starships and dogfighting in Starfield, so it only makes sense to maximize your fighting prowess and capabilities. A lot of your ability stems from various skills, like Piloting, but much of it comes from the ship you fly, too. If you fly The Frontier into every space combat encounter, you’ll inevitably fail. But fly something stronger, like the iconic Razorleaf, into combat; then you’ll come out victorious each time. Here are the best ships for combat in Starfield currently!

The Best Combat Ships in Starfield

It’s happened to me, and it will likely happen to you. You’re jumping into a new star system, carefree and having fun one moment, and the next, it’s a rough and tumble fight for your life because Ecliptic decided to ambush your starship in a debris field. But instead of letting them get the upper hand, you have a secret weapon. A starship capable of dealing exorbitant amounts of damage from the get-go. Or, at least, you should have that!

The Mantis, otherwise known as Razorleaf, is a rare starship only found via a secret outpost. It’s part of a relatively tough quest and dungeon that involves a floor puzzle, a ton of enemies, and robots to contend with. Sure, you can complete the quest at low levels, but it’s not recommended unless you genuinely want this ship to last you through the campaign.

But if you do wind up scoring Razorleaf, expect nothing but a beast of a starship. It has serious weapons, is fast and lightweight, and even comes with shielded cargo space to sell contraband across the galaxy!

Narwhal

  • Class: C
  • Hull: 2118
  • Fuel: 560
  • Crew: 7
  • Jump Range: 30 LY
  • Cargo: 1760
  • Shield: 995
  • Lasers: 24
  • Missiles: 82
  • Ballistics: 114
  • Top Speed: 139
  • Mass: 1593
  • Value: 455400

The Narwhal is a highly coveted ship and, subsequently, one of the most expensive in all of Starfield. It will cost you nearly half a million credits to call this your own, but for that price, you wind up with an exceptional starship. Its hauling capacity is mid-tier, its weapons prove capable of tackling any combatant, and its shield and crew size means you’re ready for any situation.

The unfortunate downside, along with its exorbitant cost, is its speed. The Narwhal is an extremely heavy and slow starship.

If you’re still sold on picking this one up, head over to Ryujin Tower in Neon and take the elevator up to Taiyo Astroengineering. It’s sold there!

While you’re traveling the Settled Systems in your new spaceship, why not keep an eye out for the Starborn Trader?
