Legends are defined by their actions. And in LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval’s Journey, you have a lot of important actions to perform.
Fighting
As Laval journeys through the Land of Chima, you are going to have to fight against lots of different enemies who want to keep the power of Chi all for themselves. Therefore, it is important that you know how to fight. Press the Attack button to perform a basic attack. By pressing the Attack button several times in a row, your character can perform a combo of attack moves. Most characters, unless they have a blaster or cannon, have a more powerful attack that must be charged up to use. Hold down the Attack button and then release it to perform the attack. In addition, most characters can perform a slam jump attack, which causes more damage and can stun nearby enemies. To do a slam jump, press the Jump button and then, while in midair, press the Attack button.
Breaking Stuff
While it may not seem like a nice thing to do, smashing stuff is a great way to discover hidden goodies and studs—the currency in LEGO games. Attack everything in sight and see how much damage you can cause. Flowers, plants, and crates should be broken down into piles of bricks as you advance through the Land of Chima. While basic attacks can destroy most objects, some require special attacks. For example, rock walls or slabs can only be broken by a rhino’s charge attack or Rock On move.
Building Stuff
Breaking things can be fun. However, LEGOs are for building. If a pile of bricks begins to shake as you approach, hold down the Action button to assemble these bricks into a useful device, such as a switch or object you can climb on. Whenever you get stuck and can’t figure out how to get past an obstacle, make sure you break everything possible and see if you can build something from the pieces.
Using Switches, Cranks, and Levers
To progress through most levels, you usually need to use a switch, crank, or lever. Look for circular icons to appear near these objects, which can be manipulated. Then, while standing in the icon, press the Action button to flip a switch or hold down the Action button to push or pull a lever. For cranks, press the Action button to grab on to it, then move the left thumb pad in a circular motion to turn the crank.
Using Abilities
Each character has one or more abilities. Most of these are used by either holding down the Attack button or pressing the Action button when there is an object with which your character can interact. Check out Chapter 1, which covers all the characters, for more information about the various specific abilities.
Chi
After completing the first level—Spiral Mountain—Chi orbs are scattered around the various areas of the Land of Chima. They can be released by destroying plants and other objects as well as by defeating some enemies. Later on, you can absorb Chi from glowing rocks and plants. Once you have gathered enough Chi, you can choose to use it to power up your character for a short amount of time. When a character is powered up, he or she can pull handles and use his or her abilities or special objects. These objects glow to let you know that they require Chi power to be manipulated. In addition, while powered up, characters can move faster and have more powerful attacks. You can also instantly power up at Chi pads.
