How to Find the Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds?

The Dapperwing is a unique endemic life form found exclusively in the Scarlet Forest of Monster Hunter Wilds. This vibrant bird resembles a parrot, with a bright green body and a striking yellow beak. They also move in pairs, making them easier to spot as you explore the forest.

If you’re looking to find the Dapperwing quickly, the best place to start is just outside the Scarlet Forest Base Camp. As you leave the camp and enter the first watery area, look up at the treetops and tree vines. This is one of the most reliable spots to catch a glimpse of Dapperwing and capture them.

If you’re having trouble spotting the Dapperwing near the Base Camp, don’t worry—there are two other locations where you can find this bird.

The first spot is by the ruins on the west side of Area 12 in the Scarlet Forest. This area is rich with foliage and offers plenty of treetops for the Dapperwing to perch on. The second location is along the shore of the Great Lake in Area 17, which is the northernmost section of the Forest map. This serene lakeside area is another great place to search for these vibrant birds.

NOTE: We found Dapperwing during the daytime and Fallow environment. If you do not see the Dapperwing in your game at the locations we have mentioned above, consider changing time and season for the bird to spawn.

How to Catch the Dapperwing

Once you’ve spotted a Dapperwing, the next step is to capture it using your Capture Net. This handy tool is already in your item pouch by default. You can access it easily through the radial menu or by scrolling through your items in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

When you’re ready to catch the Dapperwing, keep in mind that you’ll likely be standing on lower ground while the bird perches high in the trees. To account for this, aim slightly above the Dapperwing’s position. Due to the game’s projectile physics, aiming directly at the bird won’t work—you’ll need to adjust for the height difference to successfully capture it.

Why Do You Need the Dapperwing?

Besides catching Dapperwing and adding its entry to your monster journal, you are required to catch this one during the side mission called Samin’s Research Report.

After catching the Dapperwing, report back to Samin and interact with him to complete the side mission.
