How to Find the Grand Escunite in Monster Hunter Wilds?

If you’re on the hunt for a Grand Escunite in Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll want to focus your search on the Scarlet Forest region. This rare squid-like creature can be tricky to find, but there are a couple of reliable spots where it has a chance to appear.

First, head to the underground cave located just beyond the waterfall north of Area 8. Here, you’ll find a small fishing spot where the Grand Escunite might show up. Another prime location is near the large lake directly below the Wudwud Hideout in Area 12. Both of these areas are worth checking out if you’re determined to catch this rare creature.

To make your search more efficient, consider setting up pop-up camps near these two locations. This allows you to fast travel between them, saving you time as you wait for the Grand Escunite to spawn. Keep in mind that endemic life in Monster Hunter Wilds doesn’t have a 100% spawn rate, so patience is key. It might take a few tries before the Grand Escunite finally appears.

When it does show up, you’ll know it right away. The Grand Escunite is a large squid with a striking blue, crystal-like shimmer on its upper body. Its unique appearance makes it easy to spot once it’s in the area.

How to Catch the Grand Escunite?

Capturing a Grand Escunite requires you to equip the Tentacle Jig bait that Kanya hands over during the Razzle Dazzle side quest. Without this bait, you can’t lure this squid for capturing.

After throwing the lure near the squid, make sure you jiggle the lure to attract the attention. Otherwise, the squid will ignore it for the most part.

Why Do You Need to Capture the Grand Escunite in Monster Hunter Wilds?

You get the Razzle Dazzle side mission from Kanya that requires you to capture a Grand Escunite in Monster Hunter Wilds. This side mission only becomes available to you after you have completed The Catch of a Lifetime side mission given by Kanya.

After catching the squid, report to Kanya to complete the side mission. You will receive five Jeweled Mullet Roe, three Gunpowderfish Scale, two Whetfish Fin, and five Sushifish Scale items.
