How to Update Your Minecraft Bedrock Realm

Find out how to update your game and Realm

Realms are a great way to play Minecraft with friends. While it does require a paid subscription, you can rest assured that you won’t have to work with a third-party, server-hosting site or any dodgy programs. Instead, the game hosts the server for you, allowing you to try out fun maps and invite friends to join you.

How to Update Your Minecraft Bedrock Realm

While Minecraft Realms are available in both Java and Bedrock Editions, updating your Bedrock Realm may be slightly challenging, depending on your platform. Thankfully, for the most part, it is as easy as keeping Minecraft updated.

You heard that right! Your Minecraft Realm will automatically catch up after updating the main game too! Below are brief descriptions of how to keep Minecraft up-to-date on each platform.

Xbox

Head into “My Games & Apps” and select Minecraft. Go to Manage Game and Add-ons before choosing Updates. While the game will usually update itself automatically, you can also manually install and update it here. From here, you can launch and play the game.

PlayStation

Similar to the Xbox version, Minecraft should automatically update itself on PlayStation. However, if you’re having any issues with installation, you can head into Minecraft’s options and check for updates. If any are available, your game and Realm will update themselves automatically.

Nintendo Switch

Head into the Nintendo eShop and search for Minecraft. If any updates are available, you can download the new version and launch it once it finishes. Alternatively, when you try to launch Minecraft, it may redirect you to the Nintendo eShop to download the update.

iOS and Android

Go into the Apple Store or Google Play Store and search for Minecraft. Press the update button and wait for the download to finish before launching the game. If there are no updates, you can immediately play the game knowing that your Realm is also up-to-date.

Windows

While Minecraft typically automatically updates through the main launcher, you may need to download extras through the Microsoft Store. To do this, head into the Microsoft Store and press the three dots in the top-right corner of the menu. Select “Downloads and Updates” and choose “Get Updates” to install the latest version of Minecraft.

After updating your game using the steps above, your Realm will follow suit. Be sure to check the Installation Instruction Guide on the official Minecraft site for more information.

How to Update Your Minecraft Realm on Java Edition

Unlike the previous options that redirect you to various online stores, Java Edition allows you to update the game in the launcher. Head into the Minecraft Launcher, choose Minecraft: Java Edition, and press Installations. Click “New installation” and pick “Latest Release” under Version. Upon clicking create, you’ll download the new update, allowing you to play an up-to-date version of Minecraft. Similar to the above, your Realm will also update automatically.

Minecraft is available to play on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and mobile devices through the official website. For more information about the game, check out our Quick Charge Enchantment Guide and How to Read the Minecraft Enchanting Table Language.
