Although at first glance it may seem like World of Warcraft with pirates, Sea of Thieves is a very different game, especially when it comes to basic MMO mechanics. Take gold for example – no matter how much you collect it by doing quests and other activities, it won’t help you raise your character’s stats by buying new gear.
Your progress depends on gaining reputation and ranking up with other pirate factions, so gold will only help you stand out from other players by making you look different with all the cosmetic items you can buy with it. Cool Things to Buy in Sea of Thieves
In the list below, you can see all the best places to spend your hard-earned gold and some of the cool things you can buy there in Sea of Thieves:
Clothing Shop
Every outpost has this store; you will recognize it by the boot logo on the banner above the door. Here, you can buy the following things to make your pirate look cooler:
- Haircuts
- Clothes
- Eyepatches
- Peglegs

Equipment Shop
In equipment stores, marked with a crossed spyglass and shovel, you will find all of the tools a pirate might need:
- Compasses
- Watches
- Shovels
- Instruments
- Buckets
- Tankards
Weaponsmith’s Shop
You will recognize these stores by the big red target located out front. In them, you can buy cool versions of the following weapons:
- Pistols and Sniper Rifles (called Eyes of Reach in pirate language)
- Cutlasses
- Blunderbusses
Shipwright
In the Shipweight, you can customize your ship with some vanity items as well. This type of store will have a sign with crossed hammers, and it will be usually on the docks. You can pimp your pirate ship with various new:
- Sails
- Hulls
- Figureheads
Of course, all these cool things that you can buy in Sea of Thieves will not give you any advantage compared to other players whatsoever. Everything you buy for gold in the game is 100% cosmetic, but if you combine your skill with a well-customized look, that is already halfway to becoming a true pirate legend!
