Here are the best ways to build Serena, including weapons, modules, and archetypes, in The First Descendant.

Serena Build Overview in The First Descendant

Serena shines at dealing damage from above, boosting all stats and Firearm ATK damage by being in mid-air. While mid-air, you can get weapon effects to boost damage and even spread your bullets.

Her kit revolves around her Ascension skill, which gives her different boosts depending on the weapon she uses. There are specific Ultimate Weapons that work well with her Ascension and Redemption buff and we’ll tackle them later in the guide.

While having the Ascension skill, her Redemption helps her spread damage quicker with the damage spread boost from the Redemption’s Judgement.

Serena becomes vulnerable to ranged attacks since she’ll always be open because of her skills. You always want to be mid-air so you are always exposed to ranged attackers. You want to eliminate all enemies quickly or increase your defense against ranged attacks.

Either way, when you complete her build, all enemies, even bosses, will melt. She’s one of the strongest AoE damage dealers and has a ton of exciting potential using Ultimate Weapons that have unique on-hit effects. She’s also easy to unlock through the Beyond the Void event, perfect for free-to-play beginners who want to try her out.

Serena’s Skills and How They Work in The First Descendant

Serena has the following skills:

  • Passive: Divinity – When Serena fires a gun in mid-air, she gets an additional stat bonus.
  • Sacred Flame – Fires flames forward. Enemies hit by the Repentance state and attacking enemies with the debuff have a chance to restore ammo.
  • Ascension – decreases gravity while the skill is active. Attacks while in mid-air have additional effects depending on the rounds in use.
  • Soaring – When used on the ground, it propels the user vertically. When used in mid-air, it moves in the input direction, and holding the button extends the travel distance. It deals AoE damage while moving but is primarily used for aerial evasion and reloading.
  • Redemption – When used on the ground, it removes debuffs from allies and the user while granting damage reduction, HP recovery, and stamina restoration buffs. When used in mid-air, it enhances firearm performance.

All the skills play around mid-air for damage and on the ground for support. Skills like Soaring help you fly around better. Ascension, Redemption, and Divinity give you more damage while flying, but you’ll have to learn the mechanics of each skill.

When you use Ascension, here are the effects or bonuses while in mid-air:

  • General Rounds – Multi-Hit Chance and Multi-Hit Damage increase by 50.0% each.
  • Impact Rounds – Attack drop-off distance increases by 30%. Critical Hit MP Recovery by MAX MP x 12.0%
  • Special Rounds – Surrounding AoE Damage x 150.0% and increase damage radius + target count to 20 with 150% expandable range.
  • High-Powered Rounds – Skill Power Damage +%; Additional Fire Damage Chance by 50%.

These effects completely alter how you want to build Serena, as certain weapons with high Multi-Hit base stats or unique on-hit effects have amazing synergy with these skills.

Best Weapon for Serena in The First Descendant

Fallen Hope (general rounds) is perfect for multi-hit damage, clearing operations, and even bosses. Since the Fallen Hope has a base of 1x Multi-Hit damage, you are already doubling your damage because of the general rounds effect.

Greg’s Reverse Fate (special rounds) has amazing synergy with Serena’s Redemption and Ascension skills. The weapon has a chance to proc and call out explosions with every source of damage. Combine this effect with the special rounds buff you get from Ascension, and you will hit multiple targets because of the AoE, giving you more chances to proc Greg’s Reverse Fate.

Apart from that, Serena’s Redemption Judgement also gives you more hits and even more chances to proc the weapon. The only problem you’ll encounter is not seeing anything since you are constantly proccing (is that even a word?) the weapon’s explosions.

For MP sustain, you want to use an impact round weapon to capitalize on Ascension’s Critical Hit MP Recovery since MP generation is difficult for Serena.

Best Modules for Serena in The First Descendant

To get a rough idea of what modules you need, you must know the stats you want to scale your damage or sustain your skills.

Above, you’ll see the “general” modules you need to strengthen Serena. Most modules help you sustain your MP, reduce cooldowns, and improve your skills, which will help you keep Redemption and Ascension up as much as possible.

Scaling HP is important since it gives you that much-needed defense, especially when constantly exposed. It also scales up your damage through Redemption’s Judgement, as Max HP has a 0.8% multiplier to your damage.

As for the free module slots, you are considering adding the exclusive Transcendent module, Hymn. The Hymn module helps you fly and become more mobile while buffing teammates during the fight.

For the remaining slots, you can add more survivability, like Increased DEF or Strong Mentality modules. It depends on what you lack; It could be more resource generation, skill cooldown reductions, or survivability.

Greg’s Reversed Fate weapon modules:

  • Having Aiming
  • Weak Point Sight
  • Better Concentration
  • Multi-Piercing Trigger
  • Fire Rate Up
  • Action and Reaction
  • Rifling Reinforcement
  • Concentration Priority
  • Better Insight
  • Electric Enhancement

These are technically the “go-to” modules for most weapons but with the Multi-Piercing Trigger module.

Serena’s Best Arche Tuning

While the vast number of nodes can be intimidating, these are general added stats to your build. You are mostly looking at stats like Enhanced Firearm ATK, Multi-Hit, and Max HP to scale your damage even more, so you want to path towards these nodes as much as possible.

Focus on getting the Ultimate nodes first and path to the closest nodes that can scale your damage even more.
