ZombiU eGuide Missions Prologue

Mission 00

Introduction Location: Outside Safe House

Overview

The Blight is spreading faster than anyone thought possible. Entire sections of Britain’s capital have been abandoned. The few remaining Survivors can count on limited supplies and infrequent communications. Wild bands of Infected roam the streets, their base functions still salivating over the prospect of fresh human meat. Even the rats have gone into hiding. You’re close to a tube station, picking through the filth and horror when you see a horde of Infected. You’re spotted. Can you reach safety, or will you become just another victim of this blasted Blight?

Objective

  • Escape from the Infected

Important Items

Flashlight (Torch)

Lore: A Second Blight Upon Mankind

The alchemy of wealth from air will bring a second Blight upon mankind.

This fog of death will cloak the land.

And those men who are not prepared will succumb to its foul clutches.

For God shows no mercy on those who heed not His words.

Thus will the end come. And the world, made unworthy in His eyes, will be purified by black angels, so that He may begin anew.

Objective PART 1: DOWN IN THE TUBE STATION AT MIDNIGHT

Escape from the Infected

Danger Level:
  • Objective Marker: No
  • Survivor Score: 50
  • Special Instructions: None

As the tube station’s walls dance with the silhouettes of Infected feeding on the recently slain, keep your composure and listen to the man’s voice. Head directly past the corridor on your right, and down the steps by the ticket machines in the wall [1].

The Infected keep pace with your regular movement, so as long as you don’t stop, become confused at a junction, or attempt to turn and face your foes, you’ll escape here with nary a scratch. If you turn around, even to shove foes off your heels [2], you risk being swarmed!

Pass the remains of the ticket booth, and follow the corridor around to the left, stepping quickly right as the way ahead consists of a series of barricades with zombies clambering over them. You’re prompted to run. It’s wise to try this out immediately, and put a bit of distance between you and the horde. Head into the brick-lined side corridor [3], and immediately climb the ladder at the end.

You can stop and turn around atop the ladder, watching the baying throng of decaying automatons below. Zombies don’t climb ladders, which is fortunate. However, the only way is onward. Crouch and slide down the duct chute, landing with a crash in a small storage room below. The Infected can’t follow you here, allowing you to look around, search a nearby corpse for loot (he has none), and then open a door ahead of you. This leads into a lower tube passageway [4].

Follow the instructions of the man you hear on the public address system, and switch on the flashlight using the GamePad. The two corpses in the short corridor beyond are quite dead, so head down the gloomy steps [5], turn left, climb onto the barricade, and head down more steps. Be ready to run!

GEAR // FLASHLIGHT

  • The flashlight, also known as a torch, illuminates the area around you and is strapped to a holster on your chest.
  • It runs off a special battery that ticks down from 99 to 0, flickering when only 10 points of power are left.
  • It takes around 250 seconds, or just over four minutes, for the battery to die, after which the flashlight recharges, taking around 10 seconds to reach full power again.
  • You can turn the flashlight on and off from your GamePad, even during the time it takes to recharge (the power points tick down from where the recharge level reached, or you can wait for a full recharge).
  • The Infected are drawn to this light, so you need to balance seeing a location in better light compared to attracting attention from rotting foes.
  • Unless instructed otherwise, it’s usually helpful to keep the flashlight on at all times, unless specified in this guide.
  • It is also much safer to turn the flashlight off and let it recharge when you’re in a safe area, between investigations and battles.
  • The Prepper Pad (which you’ll pick up during Mission 01) also gives off light when used as a Scanner. Be wary of that too!

The Infected are milling about, and the voice tells you about pushing and shoving the Infected so you can dodge their attacks and maneuver out of their way. Don’t delay; turn left and head down the escalators, running (not walking) to the door at the far end of the narrow corridor [6]. Prone Infected stir from the floor to thwart you! Exit as soon as you can, unless you fancy a grotesque death before you even start exploring London!
