If you’ve been enjoying the PvP side of Pokemon GO as much as we have on Team Prima, then you might likely already be clued in to the fact that Pokemon GO Battle League is down. Yes, we’re going to pour one out for this mode since it’s been on and off in terms of its functionality for over 24 hours now. While we’re not quite sure what is causing the problem, we’re pretty sure that it’s a legacy connection issue from the last time that maintenance was carried out, but here’s what we reckon so far.
Is Pokemon GO Battle League Down?
You may have noticed some issues with PvP in Pokemon GO over the past 24 hours, and it’s a bit of a shame that at the time of writing this, there isn’t an actual official fix for what’s happening even though we’re pretty sure that Niantic is aware of it. For the uninitiated, there was talk of maintenance a few hours ago about the Battle League being unavailable while maintenance was being performed, though this is in response to the fact that issues with said League have been persisting ever since the previous bout of maintenance from the day before. We’ve got the latest tweet from Niantic’s official Twitter account below and there hasn’t yet been an update on whether or not all existing problems have been ironed out.
Trainers, starting at 12 pm PST, GO Battle League will be unavailable for approximately 1 ~ 3 hours as we perform some server maintenance.

The initial problem was with people encountering error messages saying “Battles are currently available” when the feature wasn’t down or being serviced. That’s really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what the community has been saying about Battle League, though, with the mode rife with disconnects and related bugs for some time now. It’s still a new mode so we’re not surprised that there are still some things to be ironed out, but it’s been quite the long maintenance period and some of us are just dying to get back into the action!
