Josef Fares and Hazelight Studios made one of the best announcements at The Game Awards 2025 with Split Fiction, a third-person action-adventure co-op title coming to PC and consoles. Split Fiction blends science-fiction and fantasy settings to tell the story of two contrasting writers as they seamlessly jump between worlds and overcome all sorts of challenges. Like their previous titles, Split Fiction is also developed using Unreal Engine (5 this time), and here are the system requirements for Split Fiction and its “Friend’s Pass” details.
Split Fiction System Requirements
Minimum | Recommended | |
---|---|---|
Target Resolution | 1080p (Native) | 1440p (Native) |
Preset | Low | High |
Target Framerate | 30 FPS | 60 FPS |
OS | Windows 10/11 – 64-Bit | Windows 10/11 – 64-Bit |
CPU | Intel Core i5-6600K AMD Ryzen 5 2600X | Intel Core i7-11700K AMD Ryzen 7 5800X |
RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
GPU | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 – 4GB AMD Radeon RX 470 – 4GB | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 – 8GB AMD Radeon 6700 XT – 12GB |
Storage | 85 GB | 85 GB |
We’re glad that the developers confirmed in the requirements that the hardware is meant for native rendering rather than an upscaled resolution. If you’re looking to play Split Fiction at 1440p with a 60 FPS target at the high preset you’ll need something like an RTX 3070 paired with a Ryzen 7 5800X.
This isn’t too demanding considering everything that’s going on on the screen, and players with low-end GPUs can still have a 30 FPS experience at 1080p with something like an RX 470.
The real concern as always is with the stuttering issues exhibited in Unreal Engine titles. Their last title, It Takes Two, has a lot of shader compilation stutter, especially when you enter a new area or during a cutscene transition. We hope that Split Fiction has a shader compilation process at the start along with better overall optimization for a smoother PC experience.
Split Fiction Friend’s Pass Explained
Just like the previous Hazelight Studios titles, each purchase of Split Fiction comes with a friend pass. This means that players can invite their friends to play with them and they don’t have to pay for the title. Only one player needs to own a copy of Split Fiction thanks to the Friend’s Pass.
The game is tailored for a purely co-op experience and has to be played online or in local couch play. It can’t be played with an AI companion.
Does Split Fiction Have Crossplay Support?
Yes! Split Fiction includes full crossplay support, allowing players to invite friends from different platforms to join the adventure. This was confirmed in the official announcement FAQ.

Split Fiction isn’t that far off from its release next year, and we’re excited to see what the studio has planned and how they will continue to push co-op mechanics as they did in It Takes Two back in 2021.
