How to Get Exdash and Toastie in Vampire Survivors: Secret Character Unlocking Guide

There is a small pre-requisite that you need to do in order to unlock Toastie, which we are sure you will like. This is about Toastie’s ghost brother, Exdash, who needs to be unlocked first. Unlocking him can be done in two separate ways: the hardcore way or the “cheat code” way. It’s entirely up to you how you will proceed, we are just here to present options.

How to Get Exdash in Vampire Survivors

If you want to go the hardcore route, you’ll need to pick up Clovers off the ground until Exdash is unlocked at random. The odds are 1 out of 65,535, or in other words, 0.0015%. To put it in a different perspective, the chance that you will be struck by lightning in your lifetime is about 1 out of 15,300, which is 0.0066% (4.4x higher chance) so keep that in mind when you attempt this feat.

The easy route is to just type in Exdash’s unlock “cheat code” while you’re in the main menu. The code is “x-x1viiq” (without quotations). Make sure you type it in fast enough. If successful, you will hear a sound jingle.

Now that you’ve unlocked Exdash, you need to defeat a Stalker, Drowner, or Trickster. After defeating one of these, Toastie’s avatar will shortly appear in the bottom right of your screen and will stay there for about half a second. During that period, you must simultaneously press the Down Arrow (↓) key and the Enter key. If successful, a sound jingle will be heard. We were pretty maniacal about pressing the combination repeatedly as fast as we could just to ensure that we’d get Toastie and it was a success.

We’ll cover all three of these characters in order to give you a choice on how to proceed with the unlock, depending on the stages you have unlocked so far. However, some strategies are more optimal than others but you would need to wait to unlock more stages before you attempt reproducing them.

How to Defeat Stalker – Green Version of Red Death

He shows up randomly in the Dairy Plant stage, the Bone Zone, and Cappella Magna. He follows you around, has a varying speed, and deals a hell of a lot of damage so be careful not to be touched by him. On Dairy Plant, he can spawn randomly at either the start of your run, at 8:00, or at 12:00. In the Bone Zone, he 100% appears at 10:00. In Cappella Magna, he comes at 10:00. We’d say that THIS would be the most time-efficient manner to find him and kill him, by picking up a Rosary that spawns immediately at the start of the run, or by having a Gorgeous Moon. If you hunt for Stalker in the Dairy Plant stage, you may just use the minecart to run him over.

How to Defeat Drowner – Blue Version of Red Death

He shows up at the bottom of the Gallo Tower at 25:00 after you defeat the Giant Enemy Crab, at the Bone Zone at 20:00, and at Cappella Magna at 5:00. We’ll just say that it might be the easiest to just pick up a Rosary on Cappella Magna as it’s the least time-consuming method since you have guaranteed spawns for all necessary ingredients in the first five minutes.

How to Defeat Trickster – Purple Version of Red Death

Trickster is currently the newest “Death” character and appears only in Cappella Magna so far. He spawns at 15:00, tricks you by putting false gems around you that explode on contact, and is immune to instant kill mechanics. However, it’s not impossible to kill him with the raw damage so if you fail to Rosary away the Drowner at 5:00, you get another chance to unlock Toastie just 10 minutes later.

After you unlock Exdash and Toastie, you can unlock Smith IV, the third ghost brother of the bunch.

Another cheat code unlock is available after you obtain Exdash and Toastie. Head out to the main menu and do the following:

  1. Type SPAM on your keyboard (press the corresponding buttons)
  2. Go to the Character Selection menu
  3. Type SPAM again on your keyboard
  4. Go to the Stage Selection menu
  5. You guessed it, type SPAM again on your keyboard
  6. Now quickly, select a stage and choose any Arcana as soon as possible.
  7. When you enter the stage, quickly type HUMBUG and hit the Enter key. A sound jingle will indicate that you have successfully unlocked Smith IV, which you can check by leaving the run and opening the character list.

Try to unlock the full potential of Toastie by leveling him to Level 100. Until then, he’s very fragile, but his full potential is revealed when he levels up, and that’s a challenge by itself. I do not want to spoil what happens then. Make sure to also visit our other guides for Vampire Survivors by clicking the game tag below. Prima Games has the game covered 100%. See you soon!
