While the DLC pack is free for all players to download, the new characters and Emerald Diorama stage are locked at first. The expansion stage will become unlocked after finding the Emerald Disk item.

The Emerald Disk can be found in the Moongolow bonus stage, which also must be unlocked beforehand. The Moongolow stage will appear in the stage selection menu after unlocking hyper mode for four other stages or typing “honesty” into the Secrets menu. Getting the hyper mode for most stages involves defeating the final boss of that stage around the 25-minute mark.

Once unlocked, select Moonglow and a character — Queen Sigma would be a great pick to easily defeat the mobs. After spawning in, head directly west until meeting a glowing magical person. Having the Show Guides option enabled will point you in the right direction if you stray off the straight line west to the person.

Run into the floating magical person to find the Emerald Disk for 50,000 coins. It can be a bit steep for new players, but it can take a few good runs to get the cash. There is no way around this, so buy the Emerald Disk. The run does not need to be completed, and you can then safely quit. The item will unlock the Emerald Diorama stage at the bottom of the stage selection menu, and you can start getting the 16 new characters from the DLC.
