The fix is very easy to pull off, and just requires some of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare files to be re-downloaded, so patience is advised. Here is what you need to do exactly:

  • Open your Steam client
  • Head out to your Library
  • Right-click on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta from the installed games list
  • Click on the “Manage” option from the drop-down menu that will appear
  • Then on the “Browse Local Files” option.
  • Go to the folder called “main
  • Within this folder, delete folders “data0“, “data1“, “toc0“, “toc1
  • Go back to the Steam Client and right-click on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta again
  • Click on Properties
  • Go to Local Files
  • Use the “Verify Integrity of Game Files” option to have Steam re-download the clean version of files that you have just deleted
  • Try playing CoD: MW2 again
