How To Fix Lagging Palia Gameplay on PC

The first thing you’ll want to do is access your graphics settings. There is a chance that you’re running with your graphics level turned up a bit too high, even if your computer is rather beastly. During my time in the Beta, I’ve been running into a fair number of issues with frame drops, even though I have a very good PC build, and these steps helped lessen the pain.

To access graphics settings in Palia, follow these steps:

  • Press the ESC key on your keyboard
  • Go to Settings
  • In settings, click on the second icon from the left, Graphics Settings
  • Inside, find Graphics Quality along the top menu, click it
  • Change your settings as needed until Palia runs smoothly

Under the Advanced settings, you can also change your DirectX version to a different kind, since Palia automatically defaults to running DirectX12 with the game. Try switching this setting to DirectX11, and restarting your game to see if that helps it run any better.

In my own experience, I had lowered the Graphics Settings from Epic down to High and swapped between DirectX versions until it seemed that the game was running more stable. Even if you have to swap down to Low, there is a chance that your game may still lag. What causes this?

There could be some Server Issues happening, as these same types of bugs were happening during the Alpha Period of Palia, and were chalked up to being a server side issue. If this is the case, there are no amount of graphical tweaks that you can put to the test, you’ll unfortunately still have these issues. The devs do seem hard at work to try and squash these issues, however, as my playtime has either been silky smooth or downright unplayable as new players join the server.

It’s a game of patience, but one that is well worth your time and effort. Palia is a great cozy MMO and something that you’ll love jumping into. While it may not retain every staple of an MMO, it’s a unique take on the genre and will help to introduce more gamers to this type of gameplay style.
