Psyduck and Golduck have been around for a while now. Since the beginning of the first Generation, these two appear again in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. While you may have seen Psyduck everywhere on the map by now, figuring out how to get its second form, Golduck, is another challenge entirely. If you’re interested in learning more, continue reading to discover how to evolve Psyduck into Golduck in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
How to Evolve Psyduck into Golduck in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Like many Pokemon in the game, Psyduck will evolve into Golduck after reaching a particular level. You’ll have to raise your Psyduck’s to level 33 before starting the evolution process. Fortunately, you won’t need any other items or friendship levels alongside this requirement. Below are a few ways you can start raising your Pokemon’s levels:
- Auto-battle wild Pokemon. You can send out any Pokemon in your first party slot by pressing the R button on your controller. You can either use your Psyduck to fight or battle high-level enemies with another party member.
- Fight Pokemon in normal battles. While regular fights take slightly longer, you’ll gain more EXP each time.
- Battle Trainers in the Overworld. Alternatively, you can keep Psyduck in your party when fighting against Gym Leaders, Titans and Team Star bosses and allow your other five Pokemon to carry.
- Use EXP Candies for instant experience boosts. (Bag > Other Items > EXP Candies)
Once you reach level 33 with your Psyduck, the evolution process will begin, turning it into a Golduck!

Where to Find Golduck in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
If you don’t want to go through the process of leveling Psyduck, you can also encounter Golduck in the Overworld. Golduck typically spawns in similar areas that Psyduck appears, particularly in high-level regions. Stick to areas like the river connecting Casseroya Lake to North Province Area Three and the bodies of water around Montenevera. You may also find Golduck in North Province Areas One and Two, among other places. Like Psyduck, you’ll want to look around lakes, rivers and other water sources.
