Balbala the Traitor is a crucial but dangerous boss in Path of Exile 2. She unlocks the path to your character’s ascension, and for most builds, it helps power them up in the campaign. However, Balbala isn’t an easy boss and has several new mechanics at this point in the campaign. Here’s how to ascend to the Traitor’s Passage and beat Balbala the Traitor in Path of Exile 2.
How to Defeat Balbala the Traitor in Path of Exile 2
Balbala the Traitor has several dangerous attacks, but most of them are easily dodged by rolling if you are anticipating them. It is best to get to know them if that is the mechanic keeping you from going past this point in the campaign.
Balbala has a dangerous attack where she spawns multiple floating daggers, and they all suddenly point at you. After they all get summoned, they’ll start flying in your direction, and you have no choice but to stop whatever you are doing and keep rolling around. If you can’t get the timing right, it is best to just keep rolling once you spot some of these floating daggers.
Balbala also has a random attack where she lets daggers rain from above. This does less damage than the first attack, but it is still worth dodging. Apart from these attacks, she also has several dashing slashes or four-slash combinations when you get near. These are relatively fast compared to other bosses, which makes sense as she shows some rogue-like skills in her attacks.
If you master all these attacks, the fight should be easy. However, there is also one mechanic that might be confusing to some players. When Balbala the Traitor disappears, poisonous smoke erupts out of the center of the arena, slowly filling the room with poison.
If you use a healing flask, it completely negates the poison, but you won’t heal either. Your goal is to look for Balbala around the arena to stop the poison from spreading. Once Balbala shows up, the poison will dissipate. Apart from this mechanic, Balbala also throws a coin to the ground with a glowing circle around it. When you step on this, Balbala will strike you down instantly. If you avoid it, it’ll transform into a Spirit of Balbala, which you have to defeat as an extra enemy during the fight. The spirit is easy to deal with, so it’s better to let them spawn.

What is the Balbala’s Barya Used For in Path of Exile 2?
After defeating Balbala, you’ll get Balbala’s Barya, which is a token used to enter the Trial of the Sekhemas. Completing the Trial of the Sekhemas is an even tougher challenge, but it does unlock your first ascendancy, which gives you a big power-up.
Just follow the objective, and you’ll give it back to Balbala so she can open the Trials of the Sekhemas for you. If you lose the Trial, you’ll get another attempt as long as you talk to Balbala to restart the Trial. After finishing the Trial of the Sekhemas, all future Ascendancy upgrades will require you to find other tokens, which will be consumed if you fail.
