Destiny 2: Best Shotguns for PvP and PvE, The Lie Quest

There are quite a few solid Exotics and Legendary shotguns out there to take out foes in style. While Lord of the Wolves is my personal favorite because it doesn’t actually act like a shotgun, there are quite a few solid picks to choose from for those Guardians looking for the best of the best.

Dust Rock Blues

dust rock blues

This weapon is optimized for PvP, so if you’re jumping into a Crucible match, this is a handy piece of gear to have. Some of the amazing perks it has include a Full Choke for a barrel and a rage that allows players to one-hit an enemy up to 10 meters away. It’s powerful! This kinectic weapon is a must-have for anyone, but it’s not my personal favorite – that one comes next.

You can farm for this weapon on the EDZ near Firebases Hades, or you can run the menagerie with a weapon rune slot active for a drop change there as well.

Mindbender’s Ambition

This Energy weapon is of the Solar flavor, which instantly makes it a huge hit with my personal play style. Like the Dust Rock, the Minderbender’s Ambition shotgun has insane range and with the Aggressive Frame, does killer amounts of damage. The more kills Guardians get with it, the faster the rounds fire, which makes it incredible in a high-stakes PvP format.

You can get this particular weapon by farming The Hollowed Lair Nightfall.

Lord of the Wolves

The Lord of the Wolves shotgun is my favorite because I hate shotguns and this doesn’t fire like one at all. This feels like a semi-automatic weapon, which makes the transition to shotgun-only a little easier for players that absolutely abhor this weapon type. This is an Exotic that rapid-fires like the best SMG and not only that, it’s pretty darn powerful. That being said, this is a weapon suited for closer range, unlike the previous two mentioned above. The long-rage damage leaves little to be desired, but it’s still an amazing weapon for those unafraid to jump into the fray.

To get this weapon, complete Spider bounties on the Tangled Shore and take down Fallen bosses.

The Chaperone

This Exotic is a lever-action shotgun that is heavy on the damage with bonus handling that makes it incredibly unique. From it’s faster fire rate thanks to its Exotic perk and a 9-second range buff following a precision kill, The Chaperone is a powerful shotgun for those that know how to wield it.

Players can get this weapon after receiving the Holliday Family History quest that drops randomly during Crucible matches.

Perfect Paradox

Come on, why wouldn’t you want this shotgun? It’s Saint 14’s shotgun, so you know it’s good! This rapid-fire beauty is another one of those that leans more towards being a PvE weapon than PvP, unless you aren’t afraid to get up close and personal. If you roll the Demolitionist perk, firing this weapon will also charge that grenade, which is an awesome damage assist.

What makes this weapon so special is how it handles perk rolls, making it truly unique and worth getting. To get this one, check out our full guide here because it requires a few steps.

Honorable Mention

Tractor Cannon and Threat Level weapons as well, harkening back to previous seasons for the sequel. While the latter won’t be the best for PvP, it’s a killer option to have when taking to public events and other PvE activities! The newly added Fourth Horseman gun also seems like a solid pick, but I only just earned this and haven’t tested it out thoroughly in PvP yet – stay tuned!

And those are the best shotguns in Destiny 2 for PvE and PvP for those diving into The Lie quest for Felwinter’s! You can learn more about that quest with our previous guide here!
