Gold is used to upgrade your characters’ items in the shop. Gold is scarce initially, but like in any rogue-lite game, you must invest your time and suffer through hardships to have it easier later. Here are the best ways to farm gold in Death Must Die.

How to Farm Gold in Death Must Die

First, you need to have a character that is capable of finishing a run successfully by killing the (current) final boss of the level. The final boss drops a lot of stuff, which you can sell if you do not need it, but that’s just a part of the trick.

Then, you need to change the difficulty of your runs. If you increase the difficulty of your runs, you get more rewards for the mayhem you produce, and more items will drop. This will take a while because you should finish the runs successfully with all characters to tap into this power better.

The problem with getting gold in Death Must Die is that your characters are weak when you first unlock them, which makes it difficult for you to progress through the game.

Truly, there are statues that you can approach and get a handful of gold coins (50 or more in my case), and you can break the pots around the map to get (usually) less than a dozen gold coins, but that’s goose change. I appreciate this way of getting the gold, but it’s far from the best. Here’s what you really should do.

Due to her ranged attacks, I found it easiest to clear the run successfully with Merris. Then, I used Kront to open up more ways to increase my difficulty since his AoE attacks are nuts, and after I am done with writing this article, I’ll try to finally clear the stage with Nixi, Skadi, and Avoron, which I had some difficulties with.

Because I keep increasing my difficulty, during my runs, I get a lot of blue (rare), purple (epic), and red (mythic) items. It’s not worth attaching yourself to an item in this game unless it’s a really rare item with a very special text, and you will find yourself changing your build many times. In the below screenshot, I am pointing out an item that my characters really won’t need. 543 gold will be far more useful to the crew!

So basically, like in any rogue-lite game, you need to snowball hard, and then things will become easier; there are no cheats or glitches. I have 22 hours of gameplay logged on Steam, and I need just a few more items in order to have five full-mythic characters (I have the gold; I just need adequate items to spawn during the run or in the shop). I get 2-5 thousand gold per run now.
