All Game Boy and Game Boy Advance Games Added to Switch Online: February 8 Nintendo Direct

It's finally happening!

Ever since retro games for the NES, SNES, and later Genesis and Nintendo 64, were introduced on the Switch Online service, fans have been clamoring for Game Boy titles to be added to Nintendo’s subscription service as well. It was a no-brainer; the Switch is a portable system, so wouldn’t it be amazing if we could play some of the best games from the extensive Game Boy catalog spanning multiple generations on it?

All Game Boy and Game Boy Advance Games Added to Switch Online: February 8 Nintendo Direct

Games from the first Classic Game Boy era that are available right now on Nintendo Switch Online basic subscription level:

  • Tetris
  • Super Mario Land 2
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX
  • Gargoyle’s Quest
  • Game and Watch Gallery 3
  • Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
  • Metroid II: Return of Samus
  • Wario Land 3
  • Kirby’s Dream Land

All games from this list can be played with three different filters, greenish Game Boy original style, grayish Game Boy Pocket filter, or in Color with Game Boy Color option. The selection of games in the first round is solid with some interesting unexpected titles, as we are used to from the Switch Online service… like Alone in The Dark, really? Where is Pokemon Red / Blue?!

But wait, there is more! Only if you have a Switch Online Expansion Pass, that is. Game Boy Advance games are added to the more expensive tier of Nintendo’s subscription service, and they are:

  • Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 (e-Reader included, yo!)
  • WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames!
  • Kuru Kuru Kururin
  • Mario Kart: Super Circut
  • Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

As the GBA games go, for this first batch at least, the selection is all over the place, but many new games will be added later as we saw near the end of the Nintendo Direct presentation.

Upcoming Games for Game Boy and Game Boy Advance on the Nintendo Switch Online

Some of the titles that will be added later to the Switch Online:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (GBC)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (GBC)
  • Pokemon Trading Card Game (GBC)
  • Kirby Tilt ‘n’ Tumble (GBC)
  • Metroid Fusion (GBA)
  • Kirby & the Amazing Mirror (GBA)
  • Fire Emblem (GBA)
  • F-Zero Maximum Velocity (GBA)
  • Golden Sun (GBA)

It seems that Nintendo will take a similar approach with these systems as with other retro consoles on the service, heavy hitter games are saved for later – so hold on a little bit for more those old-school Pokemon games on Switch.
