The Fastest Way to Get Map Boss Atlas Skill Points in Path of Exile 2

Maxing these out will give you those satisfying loot explosions from bosses!

Getting Map Boss skill points in your Atlas is extremely confusing in Path of Exile 2. Even if you read the tooltip, it isn’t clear where to unlock all the skill points. The process of unlocking those skill points isn’t easy, either. Here’s a quick guide on what you should do to unlock these Map Boss skill points in your Atlas in Path of Exile 2.

How to Get All the Map Boss Skill Points in Your Atlas in Path of Exile 2

There are 10 Map Boss skill points to get in the Atlas skill tree. The description says:

“Slay a boss in an area level 79+ map to earn points in this tree. Additional points are earned for slaying bosses in maps with higher area levels and difficulties. Two points can also be earned from completing the Pinnacle of Flame quest. You must be the map owner to earn points in this tree.”

Initially, you have to go through the map monster levels accordingly. The first two points start at monster level 79. This is the same monster level you get from running a Tier 15 Waystone. Finishing a Tier 15 Waystone with a Map Boss modifier will get you the first two skill points. You get the skill points using the Knowledge book that dropped from Map Boss. Technically, you don’t have to complete the map. You just have to eliminate the Map Boss.

Note: Going forward, you will need a Map Boss modifier on all the map nodes to unlock the next Map Boss skill points. If you don’t beat a Map Boss, you won’t get the Map Boss Knowledge Book that gives you the skill points.

The next step is to get a map node with either Irradiated or Coalesced Corruption. Each of these modifiers adds +1 to the monster level of the map. Finishing a Tier 15 Waystone with any of these modifiers will get you your next two Map Boss skill points.

For monster level 81, you’ll need the map node to be Irradiated and have Coalesced Corruption on it. It’ll give a +2 total to the monster level, giving you the next Map Boss skill points.

As for the 7th and 8th Map Boss skill points, you need to find another node that is Irradiated and has Coalesced Corruption on it. Once you find one, you also want to corrupt a Tier 15 Waystone with a Vaal Orb until you get a Tier 16 Waystone. Corrupting a Waystone has different results, so it may take around four to six corruptions to get a Tier 16 Waystone.

You must finish the Pinnacle of Flames quest (Burning Monolith) for the final Map Boss skill points. You must find the Citadels and farm the fragments to fight the pinnacle boss. You must also defeat the boss to get the last skill points.

Path to the following notable skill nodes:

  • Spoils of War
  • Radiant Waystones
  • Crystal Realm
  • Organized Forces
  • Beyond Reality

The Map Boss skill tree lacks variety. These nodes are almost fixed, as the other nodes or paths are too weak. Quantity is always better than rarity, so Spoils of War will be better than Fit for a King.

Essences are way too useful and valuable compared to the rewards you get from Strongboxes, so you should always go for Essences when it comes to currency farming. Shrines aren’t that good since there are some “bad” shrines in the game. Some may try getting shrines if their build lacks enough strength, but it is rarely worth it because you are sacrificing loot or rewards.

While these nodes are staples to any build and farming method, players should also know the impact of getting these nodes early in the endgame. Four or six nodes into this Map Boss skill tree should sustain your Waystones as you progress through the Cataclysm’s Wake quest. That should be your number one priority, which makes these Map Boss skill nodes your top priority in your Atlas progress, too.
