TNT is one of the basic blocks in Minecraft for creating controlled terrain demolition, fun traps, and those “what will happen when we activate (insert insane number here) TNT Blocks” YouTube videos. So, let’s learn how to make it in Minecraft!

How to Make TNT in Minecraft?

To craft TNT blocks in Minecraft you will need the following:

  • Gunpowder x5
  • Sand / or Red Sand x4

You need to put the materials in shape like this in order to craft TNT Block x1:

Where to Find TNT Blocks in Minecraft?

TNT can also be found on the map as naturally occurring blocks in desert pyramid structures and their traps, but you can also find them in treasure chests. In the Java Edition, you can find 1 to 2 TNT Blocks in Buried Treasure Chest (62.7%) or in the Shipwrecks Supply Chest (7.5%). As for the Bedrock Edition, chances for finding TNT in Buried Treasure Chest are even less (34.3%) while for the Shipwreck Supply Chest, the drop rate is the same (7.5%).

How to Use TNT Blocks in Minecraft?

TNT blocks can be primed for explosion by Flint and Steel and by Redstone signal (useful for making traps, long-distance demolition), flaming projectiles, or stray fire. Once you prime the TNT block for explosion be sure to get away in time, it will take approximately only 4 seconds! Additionally, you can also put TNT blocks in a Minecart, or create an Underwater TNT by combining it with Sodium (put it above the TNT block on the crafting table).
