Naturally, a blast furnace is going to be more expensive to make than a regular furnace. For it, you’ll need five iron ingots, a furnace, and three pieces of smooth stone. The iron ingots are fairly easy to get, asking you to smelt some iron in a furnace. The furnace is even easier, with eight blocks of cobblestone in a square shape (within the crafting table) being all you need. The smooth stone is fairly easy but might be confusing, asking you to smelt some cobblestone into stone, then smelting that stone into smooth stone.

Once you have everything you need, the recipe is as follows. Place the five iron ingots in a helmet shape at the top of the crafting grid. Then, place the furnace in the center box. Finally, place all three pieces of smooth stone in the bottom three boxes of the crafting grid. Once this is all done, you’ll have a blast furnace! Be sure to repeat this recipe if you want more than one going at a time.

As for its usefulness, a blast furnace can be extremely handy for someone wanting to smell minerals faster. The blast furnace smelts things like gold and iron ore faster than a regular furnace, thus saving both time and fuel in the long run. Having multiple means some very fast speed.
