Complete Step-by-Step Walkthrough Guide for Amnesia: The Bunker

After you pass the tutorial, which provides enough hints on its own, you will wake up in a dark and seemingly empty bunker. You must run to the Administrator’s Office (Here’s a full map). At first, you will meet with a soldier who is smoking a cigar. He gives you his revolver and asks you to kill him so that he doesn’t fall prey to the monstrosity from behind the walls. You will be directed to the Pantry right across the room from where he’s sitting, where you will find some bullets. As you try to come back and fulfill his wish, the Beast comes out and takes him away.

At some point, you will pass around the Infirmary, where there are two cupboards visible through the door from a hallway, the right one being slightly opened, containing the Dynamo Flashlight. Make sure to get it!

I advise you to find a brick, similar to the one in the tutorial, as you will need it to break a padlock to get into the Mess Hall. From there, go down the stairs, and you’ll wind up in the Admin Office, where all the fun begins.

General Tips About Resource Management, Avoiding or Dealing with The Monster (Beast)

  • In my opinion, every resource is scarce in the game except Fuel. Try not to waste ammo, grenades, or flares.
  • The Beast is startled if you make enough noise (constant winding up of the flashlight, gunshots, explosions, breaking of doors) or if there’s a scripted event where the Beast must appear out of turn.
  • The generator must run at all times if possible. Check the message above the generator.
  • Save progress often unless you are playing for achievements where you’re supposed to finish the game in one go.
  • If you harm the Beast enough with bullets, explosions, or gas, it will run.
  • Gas grenades are useless. They take too long to deploy, have limited effect, etc. The Gas mask is, therefore, useless as well. If you step on a booby trap with a gas grenade, you have more than enough time to run the heck out.
  • I didn’t use the Watch in my two playthroughs. I just carefully monitored the Fuel levels and never had an issue. Some players will want to use it.

Crafting Recipes in Amnesia: The Bunker

I found out about three crafting recipes in the game. The items that can be combined have a small symbol in the corner when you look at them in the inventory:

  • Bandage: Cloth + Cloth
  • Torch: Cloth + Stick (VERY USEFUL; do not miss any sticks in the game, the cloth is less rare)
  • Molotov Cocktail: Cloth + Empty Bottle + Fuel (requires a Lighter to work)
