How to Unlock Shell Shock and Custom Game Mode in Amnesia: The Bunker

Shell Shock and Custom Game Modes in Amnesia: The Bunker are unlocked by first completing Amnesia: The Bunker at any game difficulty. However, if you do not want to play the entire story mode first, or you lost your save file, you can see the shortcut for unlocking it in the last section of the article.

What is Shell Shock Mode in Amnesia: The Bunker?

Shell Shock mode is a hardcore-difficulty mode that will completely shake up your playthrough. Additional difficulties and obstacles will be added, and some essential items will be randomized, forcing you to throw all your knowledge about the item locations out of the window. The Safe Room may no longer be safe. Saving your game may not be available anymore.

What is Custom Mode in Amnesia: The Bunker?

Custom Mode in Amnesia: The Bunker is a way for players to adjust just about every aspect of the game to their liking to create their very own difficulty mode. Here are the things you can adjust:

  • Initial Playthrough Conditions (if you want to act like it’s your first time)
  • Generator Run Time Per Fuel Item
  • Flashlight Charge Duration
  • Torch Burn Time
  • Ammunition Amount
  • Resource Amount
  • Trap Amount
  • Save System (You can disable saves completely or have them cost fuel to re-ignite the lamp)
  • Save Lamp Locations (There are multiple lamps in the game on easier difficulties)
  • Stalker Presence
  • Stalker Reactivity
  • Stalker Aggressiveness
  • Stalker Recover Time
  • Stalker Lethality
  • Stalker Retreat Behavior
  • Stalker Bullet Resistance
  • Increased Stalker Unpredictability
  • Rat Damage
  • Rat Aggressiveness

  • Shotgunner Reactivity

  • Initial Inventory Size
  • Game Paused in Inventory (Gotta manage your stuff fast!)
  • Hardcore Health System

  • Grenade Player Damage Radius
  • Player Damage From Gas/Fire
  • Fuses and Fuse Boxes

How to Unlock the Shell Shock Halloween Mode If You Haven’t Finished Amnesia: The Bunker

If you have not unlocked New Game+ in Amnesia: The Bunker yet, you can go to the difficulty selection screen (when you are starting a new game) and hold any button (that’s not an escape button) for about five seconds. Check out the video below at 1:15, where Fredrik Olsson, Creative Lead in Frictional Games, is demonstrating how it’s done:

Then, New Game+ will show itself as a clickable option in the bottom-left corner.
