You’ve been dreading this exact moment in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. You’ve completed all of the main objectives in the game, and it’s time to face the final foe of this adventure, bringing things to an end. While you may be able to explore the land of Hyrule to your heart’s content after beating the game, knowing what you’ll need to do to bring down the biggest baddie of them all is rather important, especially since this entry in the franchise has broken so many of the traditional norms that we’ve grown used to. Let’s find out what we should prepare before getting down to business against the Great Demon King in Tears of the Kingdom.
How To Prepare To Fight Ganon In Tears Of The Kingdom
I’m going to keep things as spoiler-free as possible, as the final fight is something to behold. But, there are a few things that you should consider doing before you challenge the final boss of the game, as you could find yourself quickly overwhelmed if you aren’t properly prepared for the challenge ahead of you.
Make Plenty Of Gloom Restoration Foods In Tears of the Kingdom
If you’ve taken on any of the Gloom Hands in the overworld, you know how quickly they can sap your health. The same can be said for the second phase, which has you facing off against a ghostly visage of the Demon King himself. But, did you know that you can use Sundelions and Sun Pumpkins as cooking ingredients to create Gloom Restoration foods?
Visit the Hateno Village General Store (3356, -2156, 0118) after completing the “Homegrown In Hateno” side quest if you’re looking to purchase Sun Pumpkins, or roam the lands of Hyrule Field in search of Sundelions.
You can either drop a Sundelion or Sun Pumpkin in a Cooking Pot as a singular ingredient or combine it with something like Mushrooms to heal the Gloom Damage that you are likely going to take when facing off against this foe. Since you never know how many times you’ll get hit, it wouldn’t hurt to just toss in one ingredient at a time, as a Sundelion can get rid of 3 to 5 Gloom Damaged Hearts at a time. Use your standard food creations to heal your hearts once you have gotten rid of the damaged hearts.

Master The Parry Ability And Flurry Rush In Tears of the Kingdom
During this final battle, these two skills are going to be more important than ever. During your adventure, you’ll come across a few Shrines that will offer you Combat Scenarios that you can partake in, teaching you special skills that you can use throughout your adventure. The two most important during this battle will be the Parry ability and the Flurry Rush ability.
Visit the Kyononis Shrine (-0205, 0451, 0021) in Hyrule Field to practice your Flurry Rush and Parry ability again, just as a quick refresher. Having these combat skills fresh in your mind can and will help you in some of the more challenging moments of this final fight.
Certain weapons can also take advantage of a bonus during Flurry Rushes, where they can cause extra damage against a foe when executed properly. Making powerful weapons is also recommended, but be glad to know that you can use the Master Sword throughout the fight if you would prefer.

Upgrade Your Armor With The Great Fairies In Tears of the Kingdom
Throughout the lands of Hyrule, you can obtain plenty of powerful armor sets. Some will allow you to see in the Depths with ease, while others will let you float through the air like a bird. No matter what you prefer, you should start unlocking the Great Fairies if you haven’t already done so, as they are valuable allies throughout this adventure.
Before taking on the final foe, you should have at least two-star Armor to avoid meeting your demise from a blow or two from this powerful enemy. He’s no joke this time around and can wipe the floor with you if you aren’t prepared, so make sure that you’ve got a set of armor prepared and ready to go before trying to take him on.
There are four Great Fairies in total to unlock, and can be found at the following locations:
- Great Fairy Kaysa – (-1555, -1238, 0085)
- Great Fairy Mija – (-1463, 2994, 0305)
- Great Fairy Tera – (0919, 1381, 0093)
- Great Fairy Cotera – (1766, -2172, 0013)

You’ll need to complete a small quest before you can unlock them and utilize their powers, but the effort is very much worth it. While it would be excellent to get your armor up to 4 Stars, you may be able to get away with 2 Stars. We would not recommend anything under that, or you’ll find this battle to be a war of attrition instead of the epic battle it is meant to be.
Stock Up On Arrows & Fuseable Items In Tears Of The Kingdom
If you’re hoping to cheese your way through certain aspects of this fight, having plenty of arrows and items to fuse to them before making the final plunge could save your bacon in more ways than once. As you explore the world around you, try and find boxes, as they will normally contain bundles of arrows inside of them. You can use this simple trick if you’re hoping to save the durability of your weapons, as well.
Use The Rock Octorok Trick To Buff & Repair Your Weapons
You’ll need to ensure you’ve got a stacked arsenal before heading into the final battle, so ensure that you have mastered the weapon repair trick we covered a while back. To do this trick properly, head to the Golow River (1425, 2341, 0317), and find the Rock Octorok hanging out there. Drop your weapon of choice in front of them, and wait for them to suck it up. Once they have done that, they’ll spit it back out at you, so block or jump out of the way, and pick it up for a fully repaired weapon with a new buff added to it.
This seems like a rather hefty checklist of things to do, and that’s because it is. Ganon is normally a threat, but he’s a completely different beast in Tears of the Kingdom. While we may not have covered getting the Hylian Shield in here, that’s something else we could easily recommend that you do before jumping into this battle. If you’re ready for this and more, make sure to check out our Tears of the Kingdom section below to find out what you can do after you have saved the lands of Hyrule once again.
