Where to Find Cool Safflina in Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)

Hope you have a coat and scarf on hand

When you explore Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom, there are two main obstacles to look out for: enemies and extreme weather! While preparing a gear setup to fight monsters is easy, the weather is an entirely different challenge that can make or break your journey. Fortunately, resources like Cold Safflina can help protect you against heat if you use it correctly; it’s just a matter of getting your hands on some first! Cool Safflina Locations in Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)

Cool Safflina is most commonly found in cold regions like Hebra, located in the northern parts of Hyrule. There are many places to find some, with the picture below showing a location I found at coordinates (-1691, 2619, 0236).

Since Hebra is a cold environment that quickly drains your HP, you’ll want to ensure you have plenty of cold-resistant armor and food! Snowquill armor is my personal go-to for the cold, but you can also use Archaic Warm armor.

Similarly, if you need food for your journey, you can use Warm Safflina or Spicy Peppers in dishes to add cold resistance buffs, negating the effects of Hebra’s weather.

Alternatively, if you’re not a fan of the cold, you can check out some sky islands! While I have yet to encounter a bunch on the islands, I did find two in the South Lanayru Sky Archipelago on a small platform north of the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower at coordinates (3909, -1085, 1324). In short, keep your eyes peeled while exploring the skies for some helpful resources.

How to Use Cool Safflina in Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)

The best way to use Cool Safflina in TOTK is to cook some heat-resistant dishes. If you plan on going to regions like Gerudo, you’ll have to protect yourself against the heat to prevent Link from taking damage and fainting from the effects.

While there are plenty of food combinations to try, below are a few examples I tried out during my playthrough:

  • Cool Safflina + Raw Meat: Chilly Steamed Meat
  • Cool Safflina + Skyshroom: Chilly Steamed Mushrooms
  • Cool Safflina + Wildberry: Chilly Steamed Fruit
  • Cool Safflina + Acorn: Chilly Fried Wild Greens

Depending on your combinations and how many ingredients you toss into the mix, the duration, health recovery, and resistance level will change. For example, while most of these dishes provide three minutes of heat resistance, using an acorn bumped it up to three minutes and twenty seconds. Using raw meat also increases heart recovery, allowing you to restore more HP when you eat the dish. With the right items added, you can make some powerful foods!
