Before the Barter System was added to the Call of Duty: DMZ in Season 3, most of the gold-based items around the map were reserved for cash or Faction Missions alone. Now players can start to use items like the Gold Skull to build equipment such as a Secured Backpack, but it won’t be so easy finding one.
The skulls aren’t just lucky spawns around the map like the Gold Bars are. Instead, you’ll have to hunt down some dangerous enemies that have existed before the update and have just made their first appearance with Season 3. This guide will go over every possible way to get a Gold Skull in COD DMZ.
Call of Duty DMZ – How to Get a Gold Skull
There is no easy way to find one of these expensive skulls. Your first option is to hunt down some bosses in Al Mazrah or in Ashika Island. The Scavenger is a brand new boss that travels all around the map of Al Mazrah, in areas like Hafid Port, or Ashika Island. If you can manage to take down the Scavenger and all of his soldiers, the chances of a Gold Skull dropping are very high. I always attempt to get first blood against Operators to find this boss because he will appear at their loot.
The same idea can be applied to bosses in the COD DMZ mode such as The Bombmaker and Pyro. You can find the Bombmaker at Tsuki Castle in Ashika Island and you can find Pyro in Al Mazrah. I found that chasing down the Scavenger is your best option when the odds line up in your favor.

For those who have some Skeleton Keys to utilize, you can search areas like Police Stations or the Sawah Hotel for a Gold Skull. All the rooms on the third floor of the hotel will have a chance for the Gold Skull spawn, along with some Vintage Wine, but keys are required. With any luck, you’ll have the resource you need and it’s on to the Barter Recipe list.
